Check your car Antifreeze – check coolant level regularly and, if required, top-up with a mixture of the correct type of antifreeze. Your garage should check concentration to ensure adequate cold temperature protection.
Battery – the most common cause of winter breakdowns. A battery more than five years old may struggle in the cold - get it checked and replaced if necessary to avoid the inconvenience of an unplanned failure.
... Fuel – keep at least a quarter of a tank in case of unexpected delay.
Lights – check and clean all lights regularly to make sure you can see and be seen clearly. Carry spare bulbs.
Tyres – should have at least 3mm of tread for winter motoring. Consider winter tyres for improved safety. Check pressures at least every fortnight.
Windscreen – reduce dazzle from the low sun by keeping the screen clean inside and out. Now is a good time to renew worn wiper blades.
Screen wash – use a 50% mix of a good quality screen wash to reduce the chance of freezing in frosty weather.
Locks and door seals – stop doors freezing shut with a thin coat of polish or Vaseline on rubber door seals. A squirt of water dispersant (WD-40) in locks will help stop them freezing.

We've had some cold weather recently. Cold weather can have many effects on your vehicles which should be checked for the safety and security of your vehicles.
Cold air can cause your tyre pressures to drop. Most tires lose 1 pound per square inch (psi) for every 10 F of temperature drop. Under-inflated tires do not perform well and are subject to damage or failure especially in snow and icy conditions.
Fluid levels thicken during cold weather. When it gets cold, fluids thic...ken and that will make it harder for your car to get the fluids it need to run properly. Transmission is a big one. That fluid in particular needs to flow quickly, and your car won't function if it flows at a slow pace
These are the most recommended things to check.

5 Fluid Levels you should check to keep your car running smoothly :)
1: Engine oil The Level should be on the dipstick between the minimum and maximum level marked on your dipstick
... How often to check it: It was once recommended that you check your oil every time you fill up with gas, but with most modern cars you're safe checking it once a month.
How often to replace it: Check your owner's manual for the manufacturer's recommendations for changing your engine oil.
2:Transmission Fluid you're looking at the quality of the fluid. The fluid should be red and not smell burned. If the fluid is brown or smells burnt, it's time to replace it.
How often to check it: Monthly.
How often to replace it: This varies from car to car and depends on transmission type, but it's typically between every 50,000-100,000 miles.
3:Coolant The level should be between the minimum and maximum marked on your expansion bottle
How often to check it: At least twice yearly: once before summer and again before winter But it's easy enough to glance at whenever you pop open your hood.
How often to replace it: Every 2-3 years.
4:Brake Fluid You check this by checking the level in the reservoir normally situated at the drivers side of the vehicle
How often to check it: When you change your oil.
How often to replace it: Every 2 years
5:Power Steering Fluid Again you can normally check the power steering level by visually checking the level in the reservoir
How often to check it: Once a month.
How often to replace it: Between 50,000 miles and never. Typically speaking, most car manuals recommend keeping the power steering fluid levels topped off, but you'll rarely need to flush and replace it. Double check your owner's manual to make sure you can ignore yours.

Correct tyre pressure can help to extend the life of your tyre, improve vehicle safety and maintain fuel efficiency. Pressure is measured by calculating the amount of air that has been pumped into the inner lining of your tyre in pounds force(PSI) or BAR pressure.
The manufacturer of your vehicle specifies the suitable pressure, and it is your responsibility to make sure that the pressure is checked and corrected on a regular basis, at least every couple of weeks.
Free tyre safety checks are available :)
