In the Japanese garden @cowdengarden there were several stones like these wrapped in rope and I was intrigued to know what they were. Apparently they are called a tome ishi (stop stone) and are used in Japanese gardens, particularly those with tea houses, to guide visitors along a specific route. We spent a very rainy Sunday visiting the Japanese garden @cowdengarden . The garden was established by the Scottish adventurer Ella Christie in the early 20th Century and she called it Shã Raku En ~ ‘the place of pleasure and delight’ ~ and it certainly was. Sadly it was vandalised in the 1960’s but is now being restored to it’s former glory by her great, great niece. I’ve been finishing off some Peedie Purses today. They are a perfect size to hold a bank card and some cash, to pop into your pocket or bag.....

I do love a visit to @scottishlinen to top up my fabric supplies and I love that I can buy linen fabric locally. Flax, which linen comes from, was traditionally grown in Fife and on the East Coast of Scotland and woven in the many mills in the area from the 18th Century onwards. This is the last traditional weaver mill in Scotland and has become a big part of my business, being one that aims to be sustainable. The hank of linen fibres are called Yarn Wrapping and will be used to make zipper pulls for bags and purses..... #cushiedootextiles

I’m making the most of another lovely day out in the garden, starting preparations for the Maker’s Market next month at New Lanark Mills. I love upcycling pieces I have found. I spied these frames in a local charity shop and they are perfect to make into signs and price lists for my stall. I received some beautiful Harris Tweed today which I will be making into Clutch Bags, teamed with Scottish Linen and a pretty lining.....
