D. Fraser McLeods has been a shop since 1912. The Current owner Lord Terry has run this shop with his now retired father for the past 25 years.

In it you will find a very sunny welcome, even on the dreariest Edinburgh days, and plenty of local banter from Grant and his staff plus a vast array of fresh and preserved foodstuff.

The shelves are stacked with more unusual produce: orzo (rice shaped pasta, great for a quick risotto with fresh asparagus and shavings of sharp Parmesan) and giant macaroni, pickled garlic and gherkins of all sizes, olives of many hues, gourmet popping corn in a rainbow of colours, a variety of stock melts and just about the entire range of jars and cans from Castelnaudary (French cassoulet, confit, sausage, rillettes and gezier).

Terry offers an assortment of oils and balsamic vinegars from £1. 79 (at the new fill-yer-own service) (BYOB) to a 60 year old special balsamic at £299. The choice is yours

Worthy of a special mention here is the bread. Delivered fresh every day from Fred the Bread (proper French he is), the baguettes and sourdough are traditionally made, taste fantastic and go amazingly well with a bowl of olive oil /balsamic vinegar or a cassoulet. Fast French food. Teamed with a bottle of something cheeky from Cork & Cask next door and your spontaneous evening or Saturday afternoon Meadows picnic is sorted. In fact, a whole dinner party's ingredients can be sourced within a few steps.

Not to forget about all you 'workies' 'schoolies' or 'hank marvin'. . . Homemade fresh filled morning rolls, selection of filled baguettes, soup & tea /coffee on offer!
