Many people recommend meditating for at least twenty minutes each day to help clear the mind and promote good mental health.
An activity that largely promotes the benefits of meditation is Yoga, on top of that Yoga is an excellent way to improve your core strength and help you unwind.
The above image provides an easy to follow Yoga workout for anyone wanting to give this great activity a try.

Following on from Mental Health Awareness Week where the focus was on using exercise and physical activity to boost both your physical and mental health, the above image shows a quick and easy workout that needs nothing but yourself and a little bit of time invested in your own health to complete.
We are all very busy and finding time can be hard so we recommend for this workout that you try to get up just 10 minutes earlier and start your day with a boost.

The theme for 2019ŌĆÖs Mental Health Awareness Week is Body Image, the focus being on how we see ourselves and how that impacts our mental health.
A great way to improve both your body image and also your mental health is to perform any form of exercise on a regular basis.
Take the first step and try to become more active and feel the benefits to your overall health.

Research has shown that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, this clearly shows that if you are struggling with any form of mental health no matter how severe that you are not alone.
We all experience and cope mental health issues in different ways but itŌĆÖs important that you understand that you are not alone in your struggles and that there is support out there, seek help to lighten the load and begin your journey towards better mental health.

With Easter fast approaching, for most of us that means some well-deserved time off work or college along with some of our favourite treats.
Whether its Easter eggs or hot cross buns, all the easy to eat excess calories isn't the best news for your diet.
That being said, a little of what you fancy is fine, in moderation, in the attached image here is some help understanding the calorie content of some of our favourite Easter treats.

Regardless of who you are we all feel stressed at some point in time. Stress can manifest itself in many different ways but is most commonly brought on as our body's reaction to feeling threatened or under pressure in some form. We all have different ways of reacting to pressure, and your comfortable level may be higher or lower than others around you. In the attached image we have a few methods on managing stress.

Our overall quality of life can be seriously affected by lack of quality sleep and this can heavily influence how we behave and perform, how we feel and even how we look.
ŌĆó Generally, you are more likely to feel irritable, grumpy and have a shorter temper when tired. Lack of sleep can make us more emotional, which can have a negative effect on our relationships with others.
ŌĆó it takes us longer to react when weŌĆÖre tired ŌĆō this makes driving and operating machinery more dang...erous. In the UK it is estimated that as many as 1 in 5 of all motor traffic accidents are caused by tiredness or falling asleep at the wheel.
ŌĆó Lack of sleep affects our ability to be creative and innovative, and problem-solving and decision making skills are less effective.
ŌĆó Specifically, brain (cognitive) functions are reduced, including the ability to concentrate and pay attention. Lack of sleep can also cause memory issues.
ŌĆó Insufficient sleep can lead to a greater appetite (quality sleep helps the body regulate levels of ghrelin and leptin, hormones that are linked to appetite and feelings of hunger) which, in turn, can increase the likelihood of becoming overweight or obese. This increases the risk of higher cholesterol levels, developing diabetes and heart problems. A recent Norwegian study concluded that ŌĆ£People who had trouble falling asleep and remaining asleep each night were three times more likely to develop heart failure than those who reported no trouble sleeping.ŌĆØ (European Heart Journal)
ŌĆó A decrease in exercise. Without sleep you are less likely to want to engage in physical activity. This can exacerbate problems with body weight and heart disease.
ŌĆó Lack of sufficient sleep makes us more susceptible to stress, and more likely to suffer from depression and other serious mental health complaints. See our page: What is Stress?
ŌĆó People who do not get enough sleep may drink more caffeinated drinks (coffee, tea etc.) to reduce the effects of tiredness. Caffeine can be dangerous in higher quantities, raising blood pressure and pulse and therefore adding strain to the heart.
From the list above we can clearly see that sleep is a vital function for our health and well-being. We operate best when we are refreshed and rejuvenated after a good nightŌĆÖs sleep.

Now deep into semester 2, the end of the academic year is in touching distance. With demands and deadlines coming thick and fast be sure to plan your time effectively.
Everything's easier when you have a plan so if you're feeling overwhelmed with exams and struggling to prioritise, learn how to create a great study plan that'll help you focus on the actual studying.
Plan ahead and manage your time... Schedule your studying, prioritise your time, and focus on your most urgent exams. Spread your schedule out throughout the day and give yourself a break from one subject by working on another - nobody can study Maths for the whole day. The more you stick to your plan, the more productive you'll be and ready to take those exams.
Studying Find a place to study which suits your study habits and keeps you focused, whether it's a quiet library or a busy caf├®. Nobody can study 24/7 and you don't have to do all your work in one go. Take regular breaks to give your brain a refresh.
Don't panic Your study plan isn't set in stone so, if you're struggling to keep up, take the time to look over your schedule and re-plan it to get back on track. Even with your study plan, you may run out of time and find you can't cover all your topics. If this happens, try to prioritise your problem areas. The SQAŌĆÖs ŌĆ£MyStudyPlanŌĆØ app is available on both android & IOS and can help you tailor and create your own revision timetable and study plan.
The app allows you to import your exam schedule, enter your time availability and use the information prioritise how much time you want to spend on each subject.
