"In Edinburgh, the museums are free, so be sure to pop into the National Galleries to see an amazing Rembrandt self-portrait. We got wed at the Dalhousie Castle, and it was simply perfect!

The entire team at Dalhousie Castle was professional, courteous, excellent in every way, and I cannot even begin to describe how smoothly everything went.

I’m extremely glad for having chosen the venue, and I’m very proud of the team that made this our best day ever!

I can strongly recommend Dalhousie Castle, it's a lovely place :)

User

We got married here on the 6th April 2018. The facilities, staff and food were amazing. I cannot thank the Dalhousie team enough for making our dream wedding a reality.

User

We celebrated my daughters wedding here on the 6th April 2018 and it was just wonderful. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left the staff were so kind, helpful and supportive ! The food was amazing and the service excellent 😊 We couldn’t fault anything ! I would highly recommend Dalhousie Castle to anyone wanting that “Special venue “ to celebrate an occasion 💞

User

Took my partner as a birthday treat and we weren't disappointed. Spa and treatments were great, meal in the Dungeon was fabulous and our four poster bedroom was magical. Breakfast really set us up for the day of sightseeing in Edinburgh. Thank you to the staff who made our stay so memorable.

User

Just returned from a 2 night stay and couldn't fault our stay! Food throughout was excellent and we do consider ourselves to be foodies! Ate one night in the impressive Dungeon Restaurant which is perfect for a special occasion and then one night in the relaxed Orangery. Breakfast in our room and the restaurant was also yummy! Afternoon tea is served on little book shelves and the quality is delicious! Our room was very in keeping with the building and impeccably clean and comfortable! The spa is small but very relaxing and our back massages were great!! The grounds are beautiful and the walks around the grounds are perfect to walk off all the food!! Loved all the nooks and crannies throughout the hotel and found the staff attentive and friendly!

We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return!!!

User

Just amazing! The service, the staff, the atmosphere. Only one suggestion for improvement. Lady Catherine the cat to be officially recognised and enstated as Castle's chief rep and grant her 24/7 access in property's premises and benefits including accommodation. She's lovely.

Heikki and I had the most magical wedding on the 15th. We couldnt have asked for a better day or for it go any better. Thank you to Cornelia our wedding coordinator for making sure we had everything covered and to be sure we hadnt forgotten to arrange anything and to the wonderful staff for their attention and care. The wedding meal was sublime as well thank you for taking care of my and my family members dietary requirements so well (as this was a worry beforehand for me as I didnt want to be ill especially wearing my big poofy wedding dress, but i shouldnt have been worried). My father and multiple others and I said we hadnt had such a tender good quality steak for a long time (and I order steak almost evey time I go out for a meal) The vegetarians also loved their meal. and everyone I told after they ate the fresh made gluten free rolls, that it was gluten free they said it was very good... Please give me the recipe. We also had a lovely meal the day before in the dungeon. All our guests were blown away about the owl delivering the ring and were delighted we chose to do this and that afterwards if they wanted to hold or stroke the bird they could. It was the best day. Thank you so much!

User

Had a lovely evening with the out of the world meal in the dungeon. We had drinks in the library. A perfect morning in the breakfast room. Thanks for the beautiful surroundings and great bed. The history in the castle is shown in all area. Everyone was so nice.

User

Had THE most relaxing day today in the spa! Had a fantastic one hour full body massage followed by a scrumptious afternoon tea, amazed that I could have everything gluten free! Highly recommend and will most definitely be coming back!!

User

Cannot thank the staff enough for making James Kay & Chris McVie wedding go to plan.

Nothing was to much trouble and everything ran so smoothly. An enormous thank you from all the family, it wasn't an easy time with The Beast from the East having to changing plans but you accommodated us regardless.

User

We had our wedding at Dalhousie in April and it was a great venue to have it. The setting is beautiful and we had a perfect day. Shannon our wedding co-ordinator was extremely helpful and was able to accommodate most of our requests. We did have some issues with the organisation of the day caused by an unexpected change in wedding co-ordinator halfway through the planning but the problems were eventually overcome and the day came off without a hitch. Thank you so much!

User

We had a lovely stay here. The spa was a massive disappointment and we literally spent only about an hour in there in the end. We both had hot stone massages which were amazing! I’m so glad that the rest of our stay was perfect! Dinner in the dungeon restaurant was lovely and didn’t feel rushed to eat or anything which was nice. We had drinks before and after dinner in the library and it was just really relaxed. Definitely pay extra for a themed four poster bedroom ours was great. Also recommend ordering breakfast as room service it was a nice touch and meant we could take our time getting up and leaving at our own pace.

User

Had a great stay here for our anniversary. Dinner in the dungeon was really nice although the menu wasn't spectacular and when the music ran out there was an awkward silence which made all diners a little uneasy. Apple doughnut dessert- ditch the doughnut, the lavender creme brulee was the star of the show! Our castle rocks suite was spacious and much larger than what we expected. Everything you could possibly need for a great stay including garden for our dog although this wasn't enclosed so couldn't let him off his lead. Our only issue with the room was the some of the bedding was stained and had a tear in it. Staff were polite although didn't seem like they were excited to be working there? Breakfast was very well set out and our full Scottish cooked breakfasts were a decent size and the haggis addition was great. Our bacon was quite burnt rather than crisp which was disappointing. My husband had also requested an extra sausage to take for our dog this has never been an issue in any other hotel we have stayed in but we were told we could have it if we paid. After spending £280 for one nights stay, dinner and breakfast I thought it was a bit petulant to be told if we wanted to take a sausage out of the restaurant we'd have to pay despite being able to get one for free if it was for us. THIS IS NOT A DOG FRIENDLY HOTEL. Despite having some issues it is a stunning hotel in a great location and we did have a good stay but some things just weren't up to standard unfortunately. The girls in the spa were a delight and even took myself and my husband early. I had a facial and my husband had a hot stone massage, both were excellent and we felt great after, thanks ladies!

User

Was a birthday gift and told the pool couldn't be used by email the night before a phone call would have been better. Was busy so people standing about as only two beds to relax on. Steam room door didn't shut so was a cool room ! Food was lovely but slow service would have stayed for dessert but took too long. Also need blinds in the conservatory. Not up to the standard expected and disappointing compared to other spa facilities i have used.

User

Nice staff however room 25 had a bright yellow light outside all night. heating was unbearably hot & we didn't sleep.

Overall breakfast was average. cooked breakfast poor. tepid bacon, half piece blackpudding & half large mushroom, half cooked poached eggs, clearly at 9am they were running out of food.

The fire in the library should have been burning wood, the smoke coming off the coal was at times nauseating.

We cancelled the Spa treatment when we found out that there was no Spa apart from a single Jacuzzi???????

Never worth the £350 we paid, it would have to be half that to come back.

User

I took my husband for a surprise nights stay in September to celebrate his birthday and was really excited about the castle and what it had to offer. Unfortunately the £230 I paid was a complete waste of my money. We weren't placed in main building but a lodge 5 minutes away from the castle itself, the service was slow and waited almost an hour for breakfast which was a tiny portion I actually thought it was some kind of joke, even the waiter apologised for the slow service as there was a wedding on. The morning of checkout, the lady at the desk tried to double charge us for the room, so £460 and a £15 tip as well as a drinks order which wasn't ours, we had paid that at the time! So an extra £500 charge which is as well I checked the bill thoroughly. Puffed up and very over priced, LOOK after your guests not just those who are there for special events or weddings.

User

Beautiful venue, with lovely surroundings but sadly the treatment customers receive does not reflect that of such a stunning venue.

My daughter got married here last weekend and I found liaisons with the team very slow to deal with any queries we had. Lack of transparency was also an issue and on a few occasions we required them to relook at the bill/contract to correct things. This is an additional stress which is not needed.

One of the issues we had was it was noted in the contract that all table clothes be ironed. When arriving the day before the wedding to set up the top table was covered in lines. All other tables were also un-ironed. This was meant to be remedied. I arrived back at the castle 2 hours later for this not to be done, told it has been, and a member of staff complaining the whole time it wasn’t his job and he would be complaining in house. Laterally we ironed these ourselves but a 1 hour visit to set up took in excess of 5 hours the day before the wedding. We were told that the reason the table clothes were not ironed was as the wedding planner hadn’t passed this on to Shannon who was in charge the day before.

The other tact taken was if you were unhappy about anything rather than chat through to resolve, email communication was excessively slow, they also disappeared within the grounds stating they were busy and unable to help Work through things.

My daughters evening buffet service was awful, we had feedback from guests that they were only allowed 5 chips in the cones, the server Patricia was extremely rude to guests and told them they were allowed no more as other guests needed fed.

The bacon rolls only had one slice of bacon on them, at the cost of £5 per roll.

This children’s pizza was a Chicago town microwave pizza with added cheese. This was also very disappointing, a child’s 3 course meal was £15.80, which included soup, main course and ice cream and jelly.

Patricia was very rude to guests at the buffet and unkind to some of the children which required the bridesmaids to go and get them food as they were not given any.

My daughter asked for buffet food to be placed in the honeymoon suite and this was refused by Patrica, fortunately after some debating one of the younger members of the team intervened and prepared a plate. At the end of the evening lots of buffet food was taken back to the kitchen!

I had addressed this with the team and have been told I will hear from the manager by Tuesday.

We were all extremely disappointed in the lack of interest and attention to detail that is shown on the bride and grooms big day. It feels like everything is just too much trouble for the majority of the staff.

It’s a real shame as there are a few great members of the team but this appears to be the minority. I’m extremely disappointed to be writing this review.

I must also add our positives: the food was delicious for the adults, the beef and chicken were delicious and the desserts outstanding.

The younger(teenage) members of the team were very hard working.
