About David Hughes Dance Scotland

. . . A confrontational, risqué team of superheroes.

David Hughes Dance Scotland Description

David M. Hughes trained at the London Contemporary Dance School from 1983-86. He was heralded as ‘a new breed of dancer’ and has had a prolific performance career with Rambert Dance Company, Siobhan Davies Dance, Phoenix Dance and DV8 to name but a few.

He defined an era with iconic roles such as Christopher Bruce’s ‘Rooster’ and in Adventures in Motion Pictures’ ‘Swan Lake’. His initial solo tour ‘Maps’ contained original commissions from Robert Cohan, Wayne MacGregor, Christopher Bruce and Siobhan Davies.

In July 2005, with the support of Scottish Arts Council, Hughes launched the David Hughes Dance Company and has since commissioned works from Rafael Bonachela, Tanja Liedtke, Al Seed and Hughes himself, winning a Herald Award for ‘The Red Room’ in 2009. David Hughes Dance is now flexibly funded by Creative Scotland until 2013, and is Associate Dance Company of the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh.
