So, another workshop move but last one for a while I hope! Now based in West Linton proper! There's still a lathe to move and a few more bits and pieces to pack away and some details to sort out and shelves to put up. But I'm in and workshop cat installed.

Some before and after pics of a recent Takumi repad.

Been a month for making! As well as catching up with a bit of a backlog of wooden handles and a replacement piccolo crown, I've got a Flute Makers Guild in just now which has had an accident at some stage in its life which creased the footjoint tenon and knocked the D# touch off, never to be seen again! It's been a while since college and keymaking from scratch but it's quite satisfying to get back to it again now and again.

RC&Co all done and ready to go back.

Just a quick wee post. It''s been a while. Just made a new blackwood crown for a Yamaha 62. The old one had seen quite a lot of life...

This is an extremely important service for any child that wants to learn an instrument. Please consider signing and passing on!

I've been dabbling with chimes! I made a couple of sets at Christmas with Scottish oak suspension disk on the top and a bubinga striker. Theres a bit of science involved, obviously taking the time to tune the individual tubes but also hanging them at a particular point so that neither the hole in the tube and how it's suspended impact on the tone and so it has the chance to vibrate for as long as possible. Striking them at the bottom also helps to maximise these properties. Each chime is tuned and make up a chord. In this case Bm9 although there could be (almost!) any number of chimes to play any scale of chord you wish!

Something a little different today. A prototype for a distinctly non instrument related job...

This was from a while back. A piccolo without it's tenon cap or cork grease pot. Along with some other work for it, the customer asked if I either had spare replacements or could come up with something. As I had no spares that were suitable, I turned up piece of boxwood that would work just fine.

Occasionally theres newspapers or catalogue fragments that are readable, but quite often playing cards turn up as pad backings. This from a hammig piccolo.

Good luck with your new album, Eimear!!

I guess the space under the bench is the warmest spot in the house today.
