If your dog is growling, please try to ask yourself 'why'? -what is she worried about? -is someone giving him unwanted attention? - does she feel trapped, as if she can't get away? Please do not scold her, or yell at her. Instead, take it as a warning that she is scared, or bothered by something or most likely, someone. Your dog relies on you to help him and protect him. Please listen to his body language and vocalisations. Consult a professional dog trainer if this continues, and you are concerned, or if you do not know how to handle your dog.

Claire is the amazing owner of energetic Dudley, and a mum, and a professional. She is doing an amazing job juggling all of them and reports: Dudley (my extremely large Labrador puppy) and I have really enjoyed our time with Debs. She is a calm and knowledgeable presence who has introduced us to positive training methods which have had a wonderful effect on Dudley’s behaviour and our ability to manage him. We are a busy family with lots of distractions, but Debs has always b...een willing to work around us and to involve all the family members in the training. She provided manageable goals within each session, and provided a wealth of additional suggestions via e-mail. We are taking forward a number of approaches which will require continued practice but which will stand us in good stead for the future. Most of all I think we will just miss Debs!

Do you ever see your dog or cat in the window waiting for you when you return home? Does your pet seem to know 'when it is time' for a favourite activity, such as a game, walk, lap time or meals? Now there is science to back up the theory that our pets do tell time! No more dawdling or excuses please!

Looks like the dogs have seen through us!!

This funny video makes a brilliant point: Dog owners are healthier and trimmer because exercising our dogs is good for us too. Talk about a win-win situation!!! Please remember that our dogs need outdoor exercise even when the weather is sub-optimal.

I found this quote in a blog where Behaviour experts were asked to give their opinion on how to make life better for dogs. I met this vet once, and she is wise and kind.
Dr. Ilana Reisner DAVCB on how to make the world better for dogs "We are capable of making choices; choosing to train dogs with kindness and generosity is an important one." “We can make the world better for dogs by recognizing that we are ultimately responsible for everything they experience, from their eat...ing and elimination schedule, to their exercise and access to both wonderful and frightening things. Once we recognize that we humans are responsible for all of it and that dogs are powerless animals whose welfare depends on us, kindness and consideration naturally follow. Dogs make choices when they have the opportunity – to be warm, well fed, near the people and animals to whom they’re attached (an important one!), and to be safe; we humans are the ones to present those opportunities. Force-free behavior modification then makes sense: if you want to influence what a dog does, offer appropriate choices, give the dog time to choose, and reinforce the behavior you want. If the dog makes the wrong choice, try again – don’t punish. Punishment leads to stress and unravels trust so that choice-making is inhibited. We are also capable of making choices; choosing to train dogs with kindness and generosity is an important one."

I was very happy to work with Mila, who was very devoted to her dog. Thank you for your comments, Mila.
'Deb's had a very thorough understanding of a complex situation with our dog and his behaviour from the first meeting. Also recommend and discussed different solutions in detail. Fantastic dog behavior knowledge and diverse experience. Mila, Edinburgh'
