Document 2018 has come to an end! We want to thank everyone who has helped make this edition happen: our funders and partners, our amazing staff and volunteers, our special guests and audiences, and everyone else who has supported us.
Before our closing film last night, we also announced the Document 2018 Jury Award, which went to REVENIR by filmmakers Kumut Imesh and David Fidele. A huge congratulations to them!
... Our international jury said the following about their choice: "We want to commend the film Revenir and especially Kumut Imesh for his extraordinarily brave, honest and interrogative approach to his journey, past and present. At a time when we may feel our media is saturated with horrific tales of displaced people's ordeals and public debate seems obsessed only with these people's legitimacy, this film, and specifically Kumut's manner and intuitive filmmaking ability, provided a fresh and much needed point of view on these events. His inherent ability to connect the human experience of others created the same connection for the audience. We wish the filmmakers every success in the future."

Two of this afternoon's films consider the acts of politics and grace bound up in remembering, with quite different focuses. Silence is a Falling Body (1.45pm), presented with Scottish Queer International Film Festival, is a profound love letter to the filmmaker's late father, rediscovered through his own film recordings, while Spell Reel | Document Film Festival unveils a lost vision for a decolonised Guinea-Bissau. What drives a teenage boy to commit seemingly random murders? Rather than the usual media circus, could we look at crimes like this differently and see another story?
