Are you interested in a bit of mechanical engineering? We have plenty of things needing work to bring them back to life here at the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre. Our diesel locomotives are some of the last of their class in preservation. Not interested in mechanical engineering but still want to help? Don't worry as we have lots of other projects on the go, such as painting, joinery, grounds maintenance and plenty of ongoing track maintenance.
If you are interested in any of the projects we are working on and would like to volunteer, then dont hesitate to get in touch. We have working days on Tuesdays and Saturdays, so get in touch to see what you can help out with!

Fireless locomotive AB1952/1928 being charged ready for tomorrow. Why not come along and see it at work? Steam hauled brakevan rides will also be available, over our "new" line. Open Sunday 26th August 11.00am - 4.30 pm.

Today, 12th August, in agreement with the line’s owners Hargreaves, we ran brake van trips over the coal line for about 1 km from Dunaskin towards Chalmerston, giving visitors an extended run. We are open for the next 3 Sundays (19th & 26th August, 2nd September), so why not come along and experience the sights and sounds of a by-gone era!

User

Tomorrow, Sunday 12th August, our trains will run on the former NCB line for the first time since we acquired the lease. This will allow a slightly longer journey than before. Usual opening times, all other attractions as usual.

Our Diesel loco driving experience day for tomorrow is now fully booked up! Look out for more dates in the future.
If you didn't manage to get a place booked but still want a great day out then why not come down on Sunday when our Steam loco, NCB No.10 will be in action from 11am to 4.30pm!

Today at the Scottish Industrial Railway Centre, Dunaskin, Waterside, in the Doon Valley, Ayrshire. Starring Powfoot No 1 and NCB Ayrshire Area No. 10, both Barclay locomotives. Why not come along today or any Sunday in August?

User

Time to light up! plenty of firewood required along with the coal to get her going. It takes a couple of hours to raise steam to full pressure so we're ready to go for the first passengers at 11am.
So, if you're looking for a great day out then why not head on down to Dunaskin and see Number 10 in action!

User

Good morning! It's a lovely morning here at Dunaskin. The team are already in working hard to get No.10, our 1947 steam loco ready for action.

User

Look out for some behind the scenes action tomorrow morning! We'll have an exciting look into what goes on preparing our steam loco to get it ready for service. Light up starts early to ensure we are ready to run on time.
We're open from 11am tomorrow so head on down for an exciting journey into the industrial heritage of Ayrshire's past!

Sunday August 5th : Our latest steam open day at the SIRC will go ahead as usual. Open from 11.00am; steam-hauled brakevan rides, museum, cafe and souvenir shop all open. There may be another diversion on the A713, but likely to be quite a short one this time. Hope to see you there!

Diesel driving experience day : Saturday August 11th. With several firm bookings now in, there are still a few places available. See previous postings for details. If you're interested, please phone Archie on 01292 269260.

A busy Tuesday workday for the hard working volunteers at Dunaskin! Gavin started off the morning by adjusting the brakes on No.10, our steam loco. Wullie and Jim spent the morning changing out a faulty left hand steam injector valve on No.10. A nice, new old stock valve was fitted.
Our fantastic painter Anne was busy touching up the paint work on our Diesel loco Powfoot No.1!
Gavin and Archie spent some time filling the coal bags in preparation for this Sundays openday....
A few other small jobs were tackled onsite to keep the place looking good. These are all some of the behind the scenes work that goes on week in, week out to enable us to open on Sundays for visitors.
As ever, we are always looking for new volunteers to help us out preserving some wonderful historical items - many unique to Dunaskin and Ayrshire! If you think you could help out with painting, engineering, loco preparation and restoration, in the cafe or visitor museum then we'd love to hear from you! ^GTS

Weather not the best for the Steam Day today, but our 166 visitors enjoyed their day. No. 10 ran the brake van rides, the fireless did demonstration runs. Out of sight in the loco shed one of our vintage diesels, Barclay no 399 built in 1956, latterly worked at the BP refinery at Grangemouth, undergoes restoration. The Centre is open every Sunday during August, why not come along and enjoy the sights and sounds of a bygone era?
