User

had a great time at doune. Such a nice size, chilled vibes and fun people, On top of a great mix of quality bands. pretty magical !

User

This year was the first for us and all I can say is well done everyone it was fantastic. The toilets were the cleanest I’ve seen at a fest, everyone was happy the music was great , brill weekend had by us all , we will defo be back and I’ve been telling everyone about it

User

This was the first time we have been to the festival and it was AMAZING! The whole atmosphere was chilled and intimate. We had our boys, age 8 and 10, and the just LOVED the shenanigans tent and thought that it was amazing that they could get so close to the performers.

We would all definitely like to come back, we had a blast!

User

This festival has a brilliant vibe! The folks are relaxed and friendly, not too busy and great sets happening across the site. Loved the compact feel and the kids activities! Campsite was civilised and close by...essential when you have small kids! Loved it! Will be back!!

User

Really joyful and refreshing experience!!! top weekend!! thanks so much. We had our 7 year old with us at her first festival and there was so much for her to do!! the family area was really cool and gave us all a rest!! excellent line up and cracking sounds. Well up for next year!! xxx

User

My first time at DTRH and loved it. Have been to a few festivals over recent years including Glastonbury and this has been my favourite so far. Well organised, friendly people everywhere, no queues and a fantastic variety of music to suit all tastes. Cannot fault it at all. Well done to all involved - looking forward to next year already

User

My first time at DTRH and I was only there for the Sunday. I had a fabulous time though. Love that dogs and kids are welcome, love all the fun stuff laid out to entertain kids - and mostly for free. We took our son to Belladrum last year and everything cost extra money once you were in there so it was lovely to see it was only face painting and hugging an alpaca that cost here. I saw lots of very different bands and loved several of them. Lovely laid back vibe around the place, nice size of arena for the number of people. Hope to come back, with my son, in future.

User

It was my first time at DTRH and it will definitely be the first of many! Best weekend ever. The line-up was amazing, with a huge range that suited everyone. It was great getting to get close to bands easily without having to wait hours in big crowds, and I also got to meet a few. It was a really happy atmosphere the whole weekend. Can’t wait for next year!

User

I'm basing my five stars on what a lovely time me and the kids had. This is our third year working the kids field and it was fab. However, I read some of the other reviews and I do agree with the points on organisation. However, I don't think it was the actual organisation as such, rather the people who were not doing their jobs properly. It upsets me when people who are entrusted as volunteers don't give their whole to an event like this. The bar ran out of workers on Saturday, I was told on Sunday some were drunk, the guys never finished building the toilets, some of our workshops simply didn't show up. As far as organisation goes, you need the whole team to work together and if people don't do their job, that leads to things going wrong. However, we had an excellent time. I may be biased but the kids area rocked. Cuddle a puppy had a massive queue, beautiful crafts made and the epic foam and glitter fight. We will be back to do it all again next year x

User

I love the new layout of Doune. Everything so close. the people were beautiful. The music was excellent and I received 2 fabulous treatments. Highly recommend

User

I had a great time. They pulled off a festival, despite terrible weather conditions the days before, the line-up was great. The cancellations sad, but not the festivals fault as far as I can tell.

I could have done without the reggae stage. It just was unavoidable. I liked and needed the fire-place, but you couldn't go there without having to listen to dub and reaggae the whole time. And that's just not for me. : )

Anyway, the best thing about it were the people. Lovely folks all around.

Musical highlights for me: Chris Forsyth, BMX Bandits, the epic beard men (sage francis ...) and Fit to work. : )

Hope to return some day.

User

Had so much fun for my first year at Doune, there's no festival like it - quality bands in a beautiful setting, very magical and I would strongly recommend this to all my pals :)

User

Had another awesome year at Doune The Rabbit Hole 2017. This was my 4th year attending and I can't wait till next year. Very relaxed atmosphere as always. The Lodge stage was outstanding, especially if your looking to discover some new bands. Decades of Dub stage was amazing as ever. Also good to see the return of the Thunderdome stage, as I felt the festival was lacking a dance music stage last year. Personally though I would love to see more Drum & Bass and sound system music on that stage.

Great weekend! Bring on 2018

User

Great atmosphere. Happy, happy vibe and very family friendly. Enjoyed the mix of music. Staff/volunteers were all friendly and helpful. Best looked after toilets I've ever seen at a festival! Beautiful setting and well laid out site. Really appreciated the shuttle bus (but would have been nice if there had been a slightly earlier one from Stirling on the Friday)

User

Full of sound people and the musics even better. Didn't know a lot of acts on the line up but was pleasantly surprised. Would definitely go back

User

First time this year at this festival. Can't wait to go back it's the best we've ever been too , there's something for everyone and plenty for kids my two boys had the best time and have asked to go there every weekend ..wish we could

User

First time at this festival and it was absolutely brilliant. The toilets were always clean and never without toilet roll or hand sanitizer! the variety of seating available in the main arena was unlike any other festival I've been to. Great variety of music and alcohol available as well as food. Absolutely loved Pyroceltica and loved the night time camp fire. Fantastic atmosphere, everyone seemed friendly and it was a wonderful festival suited to all ages. I can't wait to go back again next year!

User

First time at DTRH which is surprising as live right next to site ! How to describe this wonderful little festival .. . Well as a late 30s gent who gave up my festival going after some fairly poor experiences at other events ( and a belief that I was getting on a bit and passed it ) my love of getting away from it all and listening to some good music is restored ! Doune is a family friendly ( and dogs so many lovely mannered four legged friends ! ) festival small in size but jam packed with character. From Friday to the Sunday night the stages offered something for every music taste or opportunity to create your own jam in one of the many tents dotted around the site where you could sit relax or get your groove on. Hammocks filled with giggling children or glorious deck chairs were a fantastic addition and offered somewhere to watch the unique and interesting characters that passed by or to fill bellies with the awesome food on offer notably the haggis man truck and gastrogrillaz ( seriously this was one of the best meals I’ve had at a festival ! ). We spent the majority of time between the campsite and main arena easily within walking distance and drama free throughout the weekend. The behavior of all in attendance was as chilled as the atmosphere. Never had an issue or witnessed anything concerning or that would have ruined your weekend ( and the toilets weren’t awful either ! ) In short will be back and highly recommend anyone who loves the festival atmosphere of old but without the drama to attend as you’ll definitely find something at DTRH that will bring back those memories of how good it used to be and can apparently be again ! Great job

User

Fantastic return to form this year after last year which was, well.... never mind that now! Toilets were vastly improved. Love the lack of queues for everything (except coffee, boy that has queues but understandably so!), nice range of drinks, happy and friendly staff, great music and performances. One small suggestion is to place family car parking adjacent to the family campsite to save the lengthy up/downhill hike. But we had a great time and will return, keep up the fantastic work.

User

Excellent entertainment for all ages. Fabulous music showcasing great and varied talent from new faces to long established big names. Wonderful, relaxed atmosphere and felt totally safe. Separate area for family camping supported that. Very, very good value for money. Facilities for kids and families exceeded my expectations and my 6 yr old grandson loved every minute. When asked what his favourite thing was out of the whole weekend, he said "all of it!" Couldn't have summed it up better!

User

EDITED FOR 2018 - all the below addressed and an amazing turnaround, thank you guys!

Updated to 5 stars :)

====================================== ===========

Last year this was a 5 star festival. This year...not so much.

Toilets were horrible. Last year's hay composting toilets replaced with plastic wheelie bins. And no hay bale urinals at all. Why?

Camping and parking was a shambles. Is it so hard to put some signs up saying family/quiet camping so people know where to go? Also policing these would be good. We had some selfish idiot in a camper van parked at the edge of the supposed family area who got back at 4am and whacked on his music at full blast just as the dub stage finished. After me yelling at him, he then started playing his own shitty songs on his guitar. Luckily he got a max 2 hours sleep as I was up with my 4yo at 6.30am. And we made lots of noise.

Stupidly loud Dub stage on Sat night.

Bands not turning up and no on site announcements. This was really poor.

An eyesore of an unfinished stage that never got used (the globe one) as far as I could tell.

No way of getting my 5 quid deposit back in spite of making sure I took my rubbish with me.

Overall a real let down. Feels like the new partnership was a failure. I won't be booking early bird this year, sorry.

User

Doune the rabbit hole is an experience I would recommend to everyone.

What a fantastic weekend! Never have I seen so many happy people!

A super family friendly atmosphere. There's lots for the kids to do. There's showers if you don't mind paying a little. Lots of space to lay about in the sun and relax.

The music was amazing, you are guaranteed to be dancing all weekend. There's something for everyone.

The estate is beautiful too, so many trees to lay under or lounge around in deckchair.

I had such a brilliant weekend!

Will definitely see you next year.

User

Doune is always the place where i don't know many of the bands playing but that doesn't matter because i'm guaranteed to find something new that i love, beautiful location, great music, the perfect place to meet new friends and re connect with old ones!

User

Best festival ever!!! Amazing vibe, amazing crew, amazing line-up. Great food, clean toilets (yes, really, at a festival), great kids activities....... I could go on for ages but I had so much fun that I need to go to bed now :-)

User

Beautiful festival, friendly people, enjoyable family area, clean site, lots of entertainment and enough choice of food. Very chilled out festival with great music from start to finish.

User

As a seasoned festival veteran (albeit I had not been at one since 2005) I have to say that I was totally blown away by this festival due to the intimacy of it all. Far removed from the commercialisation of big festivals, this was right down to earth, you could freely chat to most of the bands and it was easy to get up the front of crowd without having to maintain your position for the entire day!

The vibe was nice and friendly and as the festival goers were there to see the music rather than want the kudos of a Glastonbury Facebook check-in it was a lovely atmosphere and never before have I seen so many dogs in a field at the same time! (Our 8 year old is doggy daft and it was like the proverbial dream come true for him)

It was me and my family’s first time at DTRH. I had to go. The Levellers were headlining! The Levellers!!!!! A band I have followed for 27 years of my life. Playing in a field near me? Wow. What a band they are. They alone sold me the ticket.

But, there is so much more to this event than simply the music. The boys (8 and 10) had a ball in the kids area, the free deckchairs that were scattered about sporadically were a marketing masterstroke and the bar sold a nice selection of cold local ales. (Added to this the free drinks for the children – a lovely touch)

We sang, we danced, we chilled. I even took in part of the World Cup final with the Levellers! What a memory that will remain. (again to highlight the intimacy of the event, the bands generally mingled with their fans rather than being penned in to a huge backstage commune far from the madding crowd)

The support of local bands, up and coming bands and the sheer variation on offer meant it was a brilliant weekend loved by us all and we cannot wait to return in 2019. It was a triumph and I thank the organisers for a great show in a beautiful setting.

Oh, and did I say that The Levellers played???

User

Absolutely fantastic! Best festival experience I've had for a long time, excellent mix of music, some I knew, some new, all fab! :-)

User

Absolutely amazing festival. This was my first year here and I can't wait to come come back already. The staff are brilliant and so friendly it's definitely a great place to be. Only criticism is why isn't it on for longer!!!!

User

A wonderful, welcoming festival full of friendly people. And some great music too! PS please don't get much bigger - the festival deserves to be a huge success but the small site, short beer and food queues and room to move were great and a real contrast to other festivals I have been to :-)

User

A festival full of great people from those working to those there just for the fun. So much to do and see including music you never heard of who will become your new favourite acts. Would definitely come again next year!

User

A fantastic festival for all family's young old and even dogs xxx plenty of space for camping and easy access to the main areas xxx all the staff are happy and friendly with plenty of things to do for all young and old xxx it may not have massive headliners but the quality of all the music was to a high standard with something for everyone and some fantastic Scottish new talent well done to the doune the rabbit hole festival team for making it all go smoth see you next year xxx

User

2nd Year at Doune the Rabbit Hole and what a weekend it was. Friendly atmosphere, ideal camping setup, really close to all the tents and the sound was amazing, particularly liked the Beat this year and such an intimate venue. Weather held up great but the way the beer tents were situated meant you could sit out the rain and still enjoy the festivities. Very impressed with the Toilets this year, Next year the event coincides with a Birthday so hopefully that will be another Weekend to remember. Well done to the Organisers.

User

2018: Update: Fair play, you took on board the valid points raised last year and exceeded expectations this year. A great festival, lovely new layout, a quiet family camping and quiet live in area, all the usual treats for children, loved the hammocks, toilets well looked after, everything really well done. Only one point of note - Tchai Ovna weren't invited, they're an integral part of the festival. Please make sure they're there for 2019, yogi chai and DtRH go together.

2017: I'll echo what others have said in that, this year, there seemed like a major lack of organisation and some corners cut which affected our enjoyment. The main things were a) the queues to get in, surely it shouldn't take long to process folk who already have tickets? b) the toilets - there is no excuse for that. Last year wasn't perfect but it was a decent effort, this year's open bins with no sawdust was completely unacceptable and c) the moving of band times and missing bands was disappointing. Add in the fact that the environmental deposit scheme is really a bit of a farce and feels more like a way to raise a few extra pounds than a meaningful effort and, overall, I'm not sure if we'll be back for a 4th consecutive year. It would be nice to have some organiser's comment and reassurances.

User

It was a delight this year, not like (shudder) last year. Lots of families having fun, and a big "yay!" for putting the family camping area away from the main site in a lovely quiet area. Liked the esoteric music experiences that crept into the programme too. Brilliant.

User

We really enjoyed ourselves , met some fabulous people and heard some kick ass music, specifically Chris Forsyth and the Sonic Motel.

However, I was appalled at the lack of organisation and the way the volunteers were treated. I talked to several and they had 16 hour shifts, one was at the gate alone for 18 hours with no relief. He stayed because he simply could not afford to lose the ticket money he had paid up front. That is an abuse of vulnerable and poor people.

We had to pay £5 each with the reassurance that we'd get that back on receipt of a filled bin bag at the end, but when we got to the box office we were told the people responsible for the refund had left 2 hours before. Nobody has given us a specific time to return them. So 7 people were just ripped off to the tune of £35, and cleared up the rubbish for you. Thanks for that. We are the kind who always fill more than our own bin bags without being asked. This has made us feel used and has put a negative on the end of an enjoyable festival. Don't advertise it as returnable if you're not returning it. Just be honest it's a tax and put the price up by ten.

I agree with other folk's comments about bands not turning up and things not being complete, and the shambles of disorganization makes me tentative about going back. Also being parked at the top of an empty grassy field miles from the camping was extremely annoying and exhausting .

Disappointing in a festival that has been going a few years. Perhaps if you treated your volunteers with respect and value them they would work harder. People will put in loads of effort in those circumstances and are happy to do it. Before it I read that it was 3 x 6 hour shifts over the festival. I was going to recommend my neice did it but would warn her against it now.

User

We came back for our third DTRH and were again happy with the vibe and music. The bands that didn't show missed out. Theere was interesting new things, good food selection and again great kids stuff. But...Toilets this year were horrible. As a guy I can put up with pretty much anything but kids and wife...not so much. It became unsanitary. We had to leave Sunday night which meant we missed one night and final day of action. I hope all the aspects that can be improved upon, and that will likely be reported to you, are acted upon. We love the vibe and the DTRH as a whole but we hope things can be improved on the toilet front...bring back the sawdust compost toilets and hay-bale urinals!

User

This was now my 3rd visit and definitely the most lacklustre year by far, regardless of the weather. The lack of general organisation seemed evident on every level, from having to detour on our way in to collect friends from Stirling station because the shuttle bus had been cancelled (without notice), to the calamity that were the toilet facilities over the first 24hrs. Yes it rained and there was mud, but the forecast had suggested nothing different for days beforehand... so why wasn't the infrastructure put in place before it all got so churned up?!

On the plus side, both Steve Davis and Apostille were excellent new discoveries... and soooooooo many happy smiley faces as always!

User

It seems like you guys made the best of a bad situation in terms of the weather so good job there - it must have been quite a challenge so I commend you.

Line-up was great and some of the food stalls were really nice too.

There was some added faff though - the environmental deposit is a good idea but no one took it off us. I understand that bands pulling out last minute is out of your control but there were no proper announcements made so it all seemed a bit haphazard. Having the Decades of Dub stage so near to the camping site was hellish, especially since it was the bassiest stage that was playing latest - I had earplugs in and I was still having nightmares about R E G G A E E E E. Also those terror toilets lmao. No more seats above wheelie bins of jobbies please.

A lot of the stalls selling clothing were a hot mess, friends. Have you heard of a thing called cultural appropriation? Miscellaneous """ethnic""" prints? Dreamcatchers? 'Namaste'? I know the majority of people there were white people with waist length mouldy dreadlocks and bindis so I guess it makes business sense to sell there but my god.

Regardless, I had a good time! The lack of organisation in some areas and those struggle stalls put a damper on things a bit though.
