The cottage is situated in a beautiful area, with modern amenities inside. The grounds have a little park for children, paths to walk and little gardens to discover. The staff were very friendly and helpful at the pool, with swimming noodles and floats available for children.

My husband and I recently stayed at Douneside House for two nights (three days) and had a wonderful time. The service from start to finish was personal and second to none - all members of staff couldn't do enough for us.

Our room was beautifully furnished, and spotless and the bathroom positively luxurious from the underfloor heating to the heated mirror (no steam!). The room overlooked the beautiful front lawn that seemed to go on forever.

The food was absolutely delicious, the chef having come from Gleneagles. On our first evening we had the mouth-watering taster menu with a different wine to accompany each course. Malcolm, the waiter, informed us of the history of the wines and source of the food which was largely locally produced. Our second evening meal was also excellent.

There is a wonderful ambience and atmosphere at Douneside, with the entire House being tastefully decorated, interwoven with its poignant history. This includes photographs and portraits of the MacRobert family, the previous owners.

There is also a super health club which includes a swimming pool and gym and lovely walks around the grounds. Further afield, worth visiting is the stone circle past Tarland and the Culsh Earth House just off the main road to the east.

We would not hesitate to make a return trip to Douneside House. It is an absolute gem and only an hour's drive from Aberdeen.

I took my friend and two guests for afternoon tea for her 88th birthday last week .
She got a lovely welcome with the staff singing happy birthday , had a lovely tour of the house
Then sat down to a superb spread of food , we had 10 items each , from sandwiches, quiche , cakes to scone with jam and cream also a glass of champagne . The flavours were amazing and the staff first class
You made an old lady very happy . Thank you
