In this class you will make a box and a portfolio case using a range of materials. You will be taught how to measure, size and prepare your materials and all the ins and outs of box making.
... On the day we aim to produce a tray box to hold A4 sheets and also a portfolio case with fastening - ideal for artists, photographers or as a presentation folio.

Introduction to Bookbinding Class! We still have a few spaces remaining on our October Intro Class.
The beginner’s class provides all the support you need to master the basics of bookbinding in a laid back and friendly environment. The class will be a mixture of demonstrations and practical exercises. You will be taught about grain direction and how to handle adhesives and bookbinding materials with confidence.
... On the day we make an A5 section sewn book, an A5 Japanese stiched book and a small single section notebook.

We had a very special project in a few weeks ago. A customer came in with a very specific idea, he wanted to create a book with a story that also concealed an engagement ring!
Karen, who not only is a bookbinder but also is a jeweler, worked in close contact with the customer to create this wonderful little book and a special compartment at the back to house the beautiful engagement ring!
We were thrilled to hear that the proposal was a complete surprise and she said yes!

We could't help but share this beautiful dissertation from Natasha Duda again. Natasha supplied us with her laser cut cork and Karen bound it for her.

Sometimes it isn't possible to save the old book cover but client's still want the book to hold a resemblance to it's older self.
For this beautiful book we kept the original cloth from the book cover and placed it onto a new one!

What a fab lot they are at Downie Allison Downie ... First my dissertation then an extra little something for my Degree show on Friday 29th May. Going to sign up for one of their bookbinding and box making classes this summer!

The team here are incredible! I had to have a University project bound and was advised on how best to layout the pages to allow for the most effective binding. The team then created the most beautifully finished books I could have hope for exactly as I'd asked in record time. I would definitely recommend using them for any and all projects that require to be bound.

The staff are very knowledgable, professional, patient and creative. Make the binding I deal with very easy.

The service from this company was excellent. They re-bound and covered my husband's thesis beautifully, and they did it to a very tight timeline. (I did not expect this!) Gail also helped me to keep the whole thing a secret for a special birthday! The finished book was greatly appreciated. Many, many thanks. Service like this is a rare find in this day and age. One of the head honchos made a leather bound book family photos, some that only exist a b and w prints, to present to my Mum for her 80th birthday this year.

The process was very simple and I was involved throughout in order to make it very personal.

The finished article was superb, my Mum, and the rest of the family, were blown away by the it.

I was there for the Beginners Bookbinding class. Lots of information in one class - we all managed to make three books. The day flew in. Great stuff!

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped bind my dissertation last week, especially Robin and Karen. I went to Downie Alison's with some very specific requests and although these things had not been done before the team went out of their way to create the book I had designed. Thank you so much, could not be happier with the final product, really appreciate all your hard work. This is a really friendly and helpful business which I highly recommend.

I got 5 journals branded with my company's logo from these guys. Magic! Really great quality and at a really great price too.

DAD produced a book of my mothers memoirs about three years ago which I gave to her as an 80th Birthday gift. At that time their customer service, attention to detail and professionalism was outstanding. My sisters were very impressed too, I think that I might have won the prize for most original present!



Today I participated in one of their introduction to bookmaking/binding workshops. The day was excellent. In a comparatively small group where necessary we all had individual attention in creating two bound books and a booklet over five or six ours. Trust me as someone with non existent needlework skills I needed all the support I could get when hand stitching the book spine!



To top everything off a lovely deli sandwich lunch was provided within the modest session cost of £70.



I'm looking forward to future intermediate and advanced workshops after I've practiced my sowing lol!

After years of making do with notebooks we finally have a visitors book worthy of the name.

First class service and communication.
