About Dumfries Community Choir

Community Choir

Dumfries Community Choir Description

Dumfries Community Choir began in April 2011 when Graham Main (DCC Choirmaster) put an advert in the local press asking if anyone was interested in singing together. The first meeting was held in the Gallery Café in Dumfries with a handful of people attending. The choir grew, and in 2012 started to meet above the Coach and Horses. Alongside the choir the’ Big Burns Supper’ festival was formed, and the organisational team for BBS and DCC moved premises again to Munchies Street in Dumfries town centre. Due to increased numbers the choir met twice a week for a period of time. Electric Theatre Workshop – a community arts agency -was established and merged with BBS in 2016 and the offices moved to the Crichton Business Park. ETW produce events and festivals throughout the region as well as offering a youth based theatre group and Dumfries Community Choir.

Now in 2017 the choir has approximately 90 registered members and has established a reputation for being different and edgy, performing at local events and festivals throughout the year. Choir workshops are held in the Theatre Royal, Dumfries.
