How is everyone doing? Are you finding challenges to deal with the lockdown? One of our leaders has been tracking his daily dog walk around Helensburgh and has been creating pictures.
Thank you Andy Gordon.
We love his “Dunbartonshire Elephant”.
... Can you create an Elephant using what you have to hand and post it here so that we can see what you are up to.
The most creative elephant will win a prize!

A short interview with Tim Kidd.
Please consider whether you can spend a bit of time getting training or other sidelined activities up to date.

Are you a Scout aged 12 or over with Emergency Aid Level 2 - the Survival Skills weekend at Meggernie is a great opportunity to learn new skills and meet new people.

Please share widely to help our friends in Greenock find a new DC.

SCOUT ACTIVE SUPPORT
Dunbartonshire District are setting up a Scout Active Support Group and we’d like you and any other people you know to get involved.
The “SAS” Group is formed of any adult who wishes to devote some volunteering time to Scouting without the commitment of regular leadership or administrative roles. There are a number of ways it works:
... 1. Perhaps you have a bit of spare time and could help with a specific craft activity at a section meeting.
2. Perhaps you can’t commit to week night activities but could come and help at a weekend camp, for instance setting up tents or helping with catering (see the picture for smiley caterers last weekend).
3. Perhaps you have some trade skills (electrician, plumber) that could support a scout group to do some work on their building.
4. Perhaps you can help a group manage or audit its accounts.
5. Perhaps you have time to help with DIY tasks at a scout building or campsite.
6. Perhaps you have an activity skill (fitness, outdoor activities etc) that you would like to offer to young people but can’t commit regularly.
The list is endless really.
This is a great way to get involved in Scouting without a regular commitment, just volunteer for what you are able to. It’s fun and gives something back to your community. When you take part - you will get a small token of thanks and the warm feeling of joy that volunteering gives!
Please email james.harrison@dunbartonshirescouts. org for more details.

Immensely proud DC moment...
Every Scout will have at some point in their life a defining camp. One where as well as having tremendous fun, they tackled obstacles against the odds. I’m sure that for some of the Scouts, Explorers and Leaders this weekend, Sub-Zero fulfilled the requirements for that camp.
Battling not just one but two onslaughts of Storm Ciara, with high winds and plenty of rain and all the while having fun with the activities on offer, showed the best of wha...t Scouts and in particular Dunbartonshire Scouts has to offer.
Young people and adults alike supported each other, showed outstanding team work, remained cheerful despite the elements, and made the most of what could so easily have been an abandoned weekend.
So please join me in thanking the leaders from 1st Loch Lomond, 4th Helensburgh and 1st Rhu who kept going to ensure that all the young people had a great weekend.
And special thanks to the catering team (Chris, David, Claire, Helen and Stephen) for producing great food in less than ideal conditions.
At the moment I’m not thinking about next year, just going for a sit down...

For all parents and guardians of Scouts & Explorers at SubZero.
We're aware of the high winds forecasted for the coming hours. I wanted to give you an update to put minds at ease. üí®
Auchengillen have contingencies plans in place, with indoor spaces that we can take up if we require. The centre is due to finish up a couple of activities that could be affected by the wind, with alternative indoor activities being provided instead. ☑️... There's also plenty of indoor activities this evening too to keep them entertained! 🎥🍿
Leaders of 1st Rhu, 4th Helensburgh, 1st Loch Lomond and 1st Glen Lusset have secured tents using storm pegs and strengthened guy lined. We have a team ready to help with tents and fix any issues, as well as a number of spare poles, tents and pegs. ‚õ∫
Scouts and Explorers are all in high spirits and loving the activities of the morning. We are about to settle down for some lunch then back out for the afternoon adventures! üå≠
Yours in Scouting,
Andrew ADC Scouts

A great opportunity to meet DCs and the new Regional Commissioner to talk about the challenges and more importantly the opportunities for growing Scouting across Dunbartonshire and the whole West region.

It was great to head out last night to 4th Helensburgh to present 2 well deserved sets of Wood badges. Well done Ben and Neil.
See the link in the original post for more information on the Wood badge and Dunbartonshire District’s link to Leader training (William de Bois Maclaren was the DC of Rosneath).

Assistant District Commissioner (Scouts)
It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Andrew Barber has been appointed to the role of ADC(Scouts).
Andrew is well known across the District and further afield for his enthusiasm and passion for Scouting. It will be great to have him on the District Team to support and develop the Scout section across Dunbartonshire.

Can you help?
Would you like to have fun whilst at the same time developing management and leadership skills for your CV?
The Scouts in Arrochar (10-14 yrs) would love to find some new leaders to help out.
... All our volunteering is flexible and can fit round your needs.

A little bit damp, but about 60 hardy souls set out for our annual District Christmas Hike at Ardgartan. It was great to catch up with everyone and hear about what Father Christmas brought. Pop it in your diaries for next year!!!

Come and join us tomorrow for a bit of fresh air... pack your waterproofs!!!

Please watch this video. A desperately sad but very important message. I’ve known Mike for years and his bravery in the face of this tragedy is amazing.
