Handfasting! Unity Candles! Sand Ceremony! Memory Box! Ring Warming! Rose Ceremony! Quaich Ceremony! Oathing Stone! Pinning of the Plaid!
These are just a few of the enhancements that you can incorporate into your wedding ceremony with us. It's a lovely touch to share how you met your other half with your guests (okay, sometimes it's not but that's your choice!!) You can let everyone know what you like about each other, your favourite memory together and, if you're pa...rticularly brave, what you'd maybe change about each other!!!
Let us dispel the myth that Registrar weddings are dull, boring and over in 2 minutes. Dundee Registrars have been offering bespoke weddings for years now. Your wedding will be exactly as you perceive it to be and we may even be able to throw in a few suggestions you haven't thought of!! Don't get us wrong - if your idea of the perfect ceremony is 2 minutes long, then that is what you'll get but really, you deserve better!!! Let our team turn your dreams into reality - we're REALLY good at it ☺️❤️
PS Remember, we are also responsible for bringing the marriage schedule to and from the ceremony, so one less thing for you to worry about!

Is anybody doing their family tree?? As you know, genuine Scottish extracts of births, deaths and marriages, dating back to 1855, are available to purchase to help you on your quest. Always go directly to your local Scottish council or National Records of Scotland for your extract; you'll find we are cheaper and you'll get your certificate a lot quicker!!!!

A question we've been getting asked a lot recently is "now we're married, do we have to re-register our child - I read it on (insert social media of choice here) that it's against the law if we don't do it"
The short answer is - no, you don't!!!!!! You are more than welcome to if you want to change mum's surname to the same as dad's and the wee one and to add in the date of marriage but really, if you choose not to, that's fine too. It's certainly NOT illegal and nobody will track you down for not doing it!!!!

Why not include a Hand-fasting as part of your civil marriage ceremony? Hand-fasting is an ancient Celtic/Medieval custom, in which a couple came together at the start of their marriage to declare of their own free will that they intended to marry. This has been recently made popular by the film Braveheart and the recent series of Outlander (it's also where you get the term "Tying the Knot"!)

Thinking about a civil marriage ceremony and unsure what can be included? A modern registrar will encourage couples to make their own contributions to the ceremony, and there is huge scope to include friends, children and family members. As a result, many civil marriages now include personal touches such as live music, readings, additional vows and ceremony enhancements, making the ceremony unique and personal to the couple.
