Training times 2019-2020:
Tuesdays 8: 00-9. 30pm studio 1,
Saturdays 1-3pm studio 1,
Sundays 4-5: 30pm (student-led Kata /fitness session) studio 1.

Konnichiwa (potential) karateka! DUKC is the largest martial arts club offered at Dundee University, and has both a traditional and competitive outlook to training. Karate is an exciting, fast paced martial art, self-defence and an excellent form of fitness training.
The club is often referred to by members as having a university family with plenty of socialising opportunities out with training. We organise regular socials and go to our sponsor pub weekly after the Saturday training session for complimentary food!

We welcome students of all abilities to the club, from those who have never stepped on the mat to the experienced Dan grades. You don’t have to be too fit to start either; with Karate you will get fighting fit in no time! Training covers traditional aspects of karate known as the three Ks. Kihon, Kata and Kumite (sparring). We also practice sport techniques for competitions and self-defence.
Our instructor, Sensei Jim Kidd, 8th Dan has amassed a great deal of experience over 47 years of teaching. Having trained with the likes of Nakayama and Kanzawa herein Dundee he set up his own karate clubs in 1986 in the city and continues to teach at them as well as at DUKC.
