Dunmore Perennials

We currently have a few ornamental Rowan trees available for sale. Kashmir Rowan (Sorbus cashmiriana) has ferny foliage, white berries, great autumn colour and grows to 4m after 10 years. Sorbus pseudovilmoriniii is much less common. Again ferny foliage, pinkish white berries and good autumn colour. It can be pruned to keep it as a shrub or left to grow to 4m after 10 years. Both are in 5 litre pots @ £24 each. We also have smaller Kashmir Rowan's in 9cm pots @ £5 each.

Another of our featured plants is this brightly coloured ornamental Sage. Salvia Dayglow is a perennial plant which will survive most winters. It's perfect for a container or a sunny position in the garden . It has a shrub like appearance with thin stems, aromatic leaves and scented flowers. A couple of photos taken at the weekend on early morning walks and a couple taken during a visit to a local (bluebell) wood.

Today's featured plant is Geum (Avens). It's a distant relation to the Rose and thrives in semi shade. The majority are small plants growing to 30 - 45 cm. Some like shelter under trees while others are happy at a ponds edge. They come in a variety of colours depending on species etc...including white, pink, red, orange and yellow. The plant in the photo appeared at the nursery this year growing in a small woodland area. We've no idea where it's appeared from. It's a hybrid that has probably grown from a seed dropped by a bird . We currently have pink and white plants available but only a few of each.

Today's featured plant is this Japanese Painted Fern. Athyrium niponicum. Wine coloured stems with metallic fronds. Perfect for a part shaded or shaded area in a container or the garden. Height and spread 30 - 45 cm. We currently have these available as either plug plants on 9cm pot plants.

We will be featuring some reliable perennials over the next few weeks suitable for the garden or containers. As always if you're interested in any just send a message. Today's feature is a dwarf Aster, Aster alpinus Trimix. These only grow to 25cm or so and flower from now until July. Fully hardy with large pink or white flowers. Currently available in 9 cm pots @ £2.50 each.

It's been a couple of years since we had this plant available. Thankfully the stock has increased last year and we can once again offer a small quantity for sale. Tricyrtis latifolia, a yellow, spring flowering Toad Lily. Suitable for a sunny spot in the garden or part shaded if you stay in a milder area. Masses of yellow Orchid - like flowers covered is red spots on mature plants. Height 60 - 75 cm. Like most of our stock, these are tried and tested at the nursery to ensure they are hardy and easy to look after. Nice to see some sunshine at work today. The scented Geraniums in particular are loving the heat.

Not all spring flowers are brightly coloured ! This is a black Pussy Willow (Salix gracilistyla) which is every bit as colourful , in its own way as the daffs planted around it. These require little looking after if planted in the right place. They do become large , spreading shrubs but can be kept under control with an annual prune. Suitable for sun or shade in most soils, even damp locations. We will have young plants available for collection in 2 or 3 litre pots this spring.
