our favourite castle of the whole trip. be ready for all the steps! their little book was well worth the minimal fee. was not as crowded as a lot of other tourist spots. beautiful views.

An incredible castle! Maybe the best castle I have ever been to! Has to be seen to be believed. Magical location. Very friendly staff.

This is a must go place if you come to Aberdeen or nearby! The view is stunning! .. you can either choose to see the castle inside which is great but if you don't have much time the view from outside will leave you so happy! Highly recommend!

Situated at a 2 hour walk or a 5 minute drive from the city centre of Stonehaven, Dunnottar is a lovely castle situated on a hill with great views. The more scenic route to the castle passes by the war memorial, fields of grain with cattle and lovely little golfs with rocky shores made by the water in the landscape. The castle can be reached after a long row of steps and they also take you down to the nearby beach. The castle is affordable and lovely for a ruin. There was 1 tower standing, a few rooms and a well inside, many walls and lovely sights of the rocky shore from the castle windows. There are a few benches inside as well. Outside the castle, you can walk towards the right side by passing on a bridge over a stream. This brings you to see the right side of the castle and the beach on that side. On a summery bright day, the water is incredibly blue and the scenery is just beautiful with green pastures and yellow fields. Definitely worth a walk up to the castle.

It is a wonderful experience to visit here. This castle ruin is way out on a headland jutting into the ocean and quite separated from the mainland. If you don't have time or money to pay to go in, just wonder around the area, which to my mind is far more inspiring than the inside. Though the ruin itself is fantastic. Highly recommended and worth going out of your way to visit.

Stunning views and a great place to explore. Very little is out of bounds. Dog friendly :)

Fantastic castle, lots of great features and views. Mostly in ruins but in good enough shape to appreciate it, the beauty, and is great history. Well worth while. Get there early, we arrived as it opened as t 10 am. As we were leaving the castle, it closed due to high winds. We weren't rushed out. But on our exit, we passed lots of disappointed visitors waiting to get in.

Absolutely gorgeous. Right on the edge of the coast with beautiful scenery. It can get a bit cold and windy since it's right on the ocean but it's worth it. Beware that the short hike to the castle from the parking lot includes a fair amount of stairs up and down that can get slippery. Best escort young children and those with walking issues. Once you get up to the castle you can explore the different buildings and learn about their history. Not crazy busy like the other main castles and affordable to visit.
