Dyna Tune Description

Based in Scotland, Dyna Tune will go that extra mile to ensure complete customer satisfaction.

Using our extensive knowledge and Dynapack DAQ5 dynamometer we can diagnose virtually any fault quickly and efficiently. By using the dynamometer we don't need to go out on the road to re-create situations to try and find an intermittent fault with a car, instead we can attach the car and in a virtually laboratory environment test the car to create the situation that causes the car to have issues. This is a lot safer than a test drive as our technicians no longer need to loose concentration on the road whilst testing the car, instead it stays in the same place and is under complete control, this also saves time and as a result the customer money.

We also use the dynamometer for tuning cars, from 1275cc mini's to 2500ccToyota Soarer's and beyond. As we don't have to worry about traction issues like other rolling road type dyno's we can hold the car at every load cell that it will hit and tune it to perfection.

Our senior technician, Chris, has been modifying cars since 2000 and tuning cars since 2003, starting the same as any other tuner, with his own car. Once his friends seen his ability they asked if he would do theirs then eventually getting a job in a performance garage in 2010, where he began tuning commercially, before leaving to start for himself as Dyna Tune.

VAG coil conversions don't need to be ugly, we've upgraded this R32 GTR to something a lot more modern and reliable without having to loose the top cover like you do with most other upgrades.

What a way to shake down a new build but to go straight into a competition weekend?
After qualifying straight into 8th place Ricky Lawrence Drifting dominated in his battle, unfortunately, suffering an oil leak causing him to retire from the top 8 battles.
Obviously gutted about having to retire, but with 7 weeks till the next round, I'm sure everything will be fixed and improved the way Ricky has managed with every challenge the team faced in the run-up to round 1.

Diagnostics is 9 times out of 10 more than plugging in a simple £20 code reader and all the answers are given. While this is the case sometimes, most of the time the code reader is just the beginning.
We had this Lotus Evora in to get to the bottom of a power drop at the top end of the rev range. This issue was confirmed on our Dynapack hub dyno, there were no fault codes so we used our diagnostic machine for live daya acquisition. With nothing coming up we started component... testing, a smoke test of the intake shown no leaks, we used our Mityvac to activate the vacuum and pressure controlled valves in the intake proving their were all working as they should, (Lotus had found a perished charger actuator and replaced that during their investigations).
We then started testing the vacuum lines with the smoke tester, which struck gold! There was one vacuum line that was isolated from the intake system in a rested state that was open to atmosphere.
With the leak fixed we instantly gains 33 bhp at the hubs. Since the car was working properly now we could tune it, this gained final peak figures of 57 bhp above how it arrived, 24 bhp above stock power, 10lbft peak torque gains, a lot more at the top end.

We carry a wide range of diagnostic equipment, it's not all plug in and have a computer tell us what is broken.
Here a hose had came off when someone had been carrying out a repair causing a lean running fail. Quickly found with a smoke test and fixed by simply putting the hose back on.

Here's the difference in patch loom thickness.
Our normal patch loom is 11.59mm thick, the 'mil-spec' only 4.95mm!
As this is a patch loom and will be kept in the cabin there is no real advantage in upgrading your wire but had this been a full engine or chassis loom you can imagine the space and weight savings that can be had, which are critical for top tier race cars.

Quick test crimp prior to making another EP91 patch loom for a Link ECU Monsoon.
Using 'mil-spec' Tefzel wire this will be about half of the thickness of our usual patch looms.
There's no benifit to using a higher grade wire as the loom will be in the cabin away from the harsh environments of the engine bay, we just fancied a change to see how it works out.

Datalogging during tuning is key and, when the ECU allows, it can even become key to a quick and simple diagnostic tool track or road side too.
This snap shot was grabbed during an investigative dyno session after the customer came to us after feeling the car go flat under full load.
From this log we can see there is a significant voltage drop when the the fan kicks in, also, more importantly, the fuel pressure delta (the difference between fuel pressure and manifold pressur...e) is dropping under load.
This drop in fuel pressure is the cause of the cars behaviour and can now be addressed.

Data is king!
This MX5 came in to get its tune from last year checked and get a few tweaks made.
Straight away we could see it was down on power and not running consistently pull to pull.
... With the data logs from the ecu not giving us any clues we added our dyno fuel pressure monitor to the fuel system, this highlighted a fuel pressure issue.

We all know that person who never let's their car warm up before stretching it's legs.
Here we've programmed a little reminder into this Link dash, if they open the throttle too much whilst the engine is still cold the message comes up until they either come back off of the throttle or the engine reaches a certain temperature.

'100% of parts fit 90% of the time' it's more like 60% of the time or less!
We work constantly to make improvements or fix problems with aftermarket products.
On the left we have throttle position adapter and sensor kit that fits the Mazda mk1 MX5, Toyota Starlet and Glanza.
... On the right is our prototype throttle position adapter kit for the large throttle bodies that are sold with the likes of the front facing inlets for the RB25DET. This solves the issue faced by many people where the OE Nissan sensor doesn't fit properly leading to poor drivability and general running.
