We are delighted to share this post from our friends at Upward Mobility:
At the start of February we were delighted to return to Dynamic Earth for our 5th collaborative project. For this project both the Friday afternoon Art workshop and the Drama workshop were invited to go along to Dynamic Earth together to work on a multi-disciplinary project. Not only is it a collaborative project with Dynamic Earth, we also worked in conjunction with external organisation Media Educatio...n. We have now completed this project and are delighted to present a taste of the things we learned along the way in our film screening. We have explored lots of different environments, such as the Arctic with its giant icebergs and polar bears, the rain forest, and we even conducted our own science experiments and tried out the Van de Graaf machine. The workshops also made masks inspired by what they have seen, and interviews with Media Education who have been documenting the whole experience. Media Education have introduced lots of different media to our students, including green screens, sound recording equipment, video cameras and more. Upmo first started colloborating with Dynamic Earth in January 2016 and our partnership has gone from strength to strength, The combination of our students creativity with the inspiring Dynmaic Earth tour has helped to produce of number of beautiful artworks and projects. This exhibition is a little example of the work our students have produced over the years. Thank you very much to Dynamic Earth for inviting us back and to Media Education for making this project possible.

Went to The Dark Side of the Moon show at Dynamic Earth yesterday evening and didnŌĆÖt know what to expect. I love the album and Pink Floyd. Was blown away by the whole experience amazing visual show set to one of my favourite albums. Just one little gripe, I think they should perhaps review bringing alcohol into the dome as the guy behind me was so drunk he spent all of his time making silly comments and kicking my seat but even he didnŌĆÖt spoil it for me. Brilliant show....

User

Went for the dark side of the moon showing... Just amazing! With the hectic pace of life these days It's hard to remember how long it's been since I last took the time to listen to an album start to finish uninterrupted and as my only focus. Thanks for reminding me how glorious that experience can be.

Would you consider doing other albums? Wish you were here would be incredible!

We visited in Feb 2018 and went on the time travel experience, learning so much about geology, how the universe was formed, & life on planet Earth in different biomes. It was all so excellently done, really interactive and fun and the staff welcoming us throughout our time travel experience were brilliant. They really made it a fantastic experience for our 3 and 5.5 year old.

User

This place is absolutely incredible!! I arrived at 10am just as the place opened. The student ticket was only ┬Ż12 online - what amazing value for 2 hours of informative fun! ItŌĆÖs supposed to be self guided, but you do get your guides along the way who clarify any questions. The attraction is split into several sections which is very smart for crowd control. Dynamic Earth really uses technology to enhance visitorsŌĆÖ experiences. The floors shake to mimic a volcano explosion, you experience a 4D cinema experience talking about life from the Big Bang up until now, as well as the chance to view several other exhibitions like rainforest, artic, sea life, dinosaurs etc.

This is the highlight of my experience in Edinburgh. IŌĆÖve learnt so much in the last two hours and itŌĆÖs more informative and entertaining than studying 1 year of geography GCSE in school!

Kids had a great day, there was loads to do to keep them busy and it was good it was free as it can be expensive for a family for the day. We all had lunch in the coffee shop aswel which was quite resonable. Great day out. The staff were all really nice and looked if they were enjoying themselves as well which made day, well done to all the staff.

User

It was interesting and eductional, good for all ages, loved the 3d effects, the snow should fall on everyone, make it feel you are actually there,we are not adverse to getting a little wet etc,as long as you are fore-warned,probably let down by the canteen and as u know nicola sturgeon telling everyone not to use plastic straws and switch to paper straws and yet you who are right next door still use "plastic" straws, not good for the enviroment!!!

User

I absolutely loved dynamic earth. Although we only found it by fluke by spotting it in Google maps. We had an excellent visit. Well worth a Visit. One tiny thing you could look to change is to reduce the use of single use plasic, you should lead by example recycling is excellent but a lot of establishments like yourselves and the zoo use plasic staws, plastic cups etc etc. However your not the only attraction that needs to reduce this. I would still love to come back! Its fab!

User

Had a great day here with my family today, my son really enjoys Dynamic Earth and loved the new Volcano show in the show dome. However I would like to say a great big thank you to Craig and Brendan who took the Wonderful Weather event as part of the Science Festival today. We had such a great afternoon and they were so good with my almost 5 year old son, he had the best time and they made learning so fun keeping the attention and enthusiasm going for him and all the kids who took part for over 2 hours. Thank you guys, great job ¤æŹand would thoroughly recommend this event.

User

Fantastic experience and soo much to see, explore and learn. A really great interactive experience and a lot of the information was beneficial to my sister for her geography work as well which was helpful !. Well worth a visit one of the most amazing attractions I have ever visited !

User

Fantastic Party for my 2 kids today. Special thankyou to host Rebecca who was wonderful all the kids and adults had a fantastic time. My first time is show dome and I loved it. Interesting information. Lovely and interactive. Well worth another visit soon!

User

My husband, Oliver 6 and myself enjoyed our couple hours here but I felt for the price it was rather expensive. We felt we were rushing through the parts to make sure that we didnt miss the planetarium as we were allocated a time which was an hour and a half after entry. Some of the video experiences in the beginning displays I felt were abit long as by the last one Oliver (6) got board but then once into the interactive section he absolutley loved it. Although he did really enjoy the flight and the planetarium videos. Carparking is underneath the building which we used and its nice that you get a discount for parking if visiting dynamic earth, the carpark was clean and you felt the car was in a safe place as theres cameras and a security office above it, you can also pay by card which was handy. Its a shame there wasn't anymore interactive exhibits upstairs in all the open space there is available.

User

Loved it but, think it could be more organised instead of a free for all to grab a seat. Some people had obviously been there before and knew that by sitting at the back of the auditorium, they would see more.

Still a good show

User

I went here a number of years ago and it was good to come back. I went as a grandparent this time. Very enjoyable. However, I gave 4* because of the man who served the ticket. I stood at the counter waiting to be served and he completely ignored me. I asked if I get the ticket here and the woman next to him asked if it was cash or card, I said card and she directed me to the man and asked him to serve me. He rudely ignored her and me until he was ready to serve me, no apology and he lacked any form of customer care. Please put him behind the scenes or send on a customer care course or you may be losing visitors, as my husband was ready to walk out .

User

A great educational and fun day, it have everything my grandsons love. Dinosaurs, volcanoes, wild animals and amazing space travel. Adding the 4 dome movies and a 3D flight movie and you have an amazing day at a great price.

User

It's a very interesting place however it is so badly organised and a real lack of staff. The staff that were there were amazing but the complete lack of any sort of organisation is a shambles. It's not something I would revert want to repeat.

User

It was a good place for a rainy day but there's not a lot of "hands on" for the kids to do. The weather was shocking so it was incredibly busy, but the cafe ordering set up was chaotic!

User

I've been an Explorer pass holder for about 15 years. A few bits of the tour have been upgraded in this time. How about upgrading the menu at the cafe? It's not great for vegetarians, and dire for vegans. Also please tell the catering staff soup with cheese in it is not vegan - some of them seemed a bit confused about this today.

User

Arrived at half ten in the morning to see that the car park is full... parked car 2 miles away nearest place available. Started to walk to the place and my autistic son has a meltdown so we had to go home again. Day ruined!

User

Went to dark side of the moon and I must say I honestly would have had a more enjoyable experience putting a Media player visualiser from window xp on and playing the album.

The "visual experience" was little more than some substandard animations taken from the internet with a mandlebrot set thrown in for good measure.

I would like to draw special attention to money and great gig in the sky which were particularly poor, those bouncing tills where entirely cringe worthy and what should have matched the Pinnacle and masterpiece that is great gig in the sky had about as much artistic flavour as a mouth full of blue roll.

The whole thing was flat and uninspiring not the good flat like a chipatti but more like the flatness of cat poo when you stand on it, squelchy, uncomfortable and undoubtedly displeasing.

Normally I don't write reviews, however the sheer lack of ingenuity, creativity and imagination forced me to break that cycle and warn all away from wasting ┬Ż10 on this failed piece of "art".2 stars because hates a little harsh.... but yeah kids stay at home, eat cold beans and force forks into your eye balls .. I swear it'll be far more interesting ;)
