Choice of food is an absolute joke! We checked before we came that there was somewhere that my autistic daughter would be able to eat, there were 3 different places so all was good..... or so we thought! Theres only one place that sells pizza, but not until 2pm and there’s a half hour wait on all foods (too close to boarding time to order one) another place sells pancakes.... but only before 11 and the 3rd place has run out of crepe mix.... it’s not even 2pm!!! I get that most people can find something else to eat but we did our bit by looking first to check and, after seeing three separate suitable places we didn’t bring a packed lunch for her so now we have one very hungry girl (hungry=grumpy)

Worst airport experience I have encountered in years. On arrival no signs for car hire until we where leaving the building. On departure we walked in to the building to be met with a massive queue stretching across the whole departure hall. This was the line for Ryan Air, EasyJet and Flybe combined, to find this out you had to go to the front then all the way back to the endocrine the queue, ask other passengers or wait to be yelled at by the 1 member of staff dealing with it. There was no clear signs as to where boarding passes could be printed (as when traveling checking in on a phone works for most, printing is a different issue), asking staff ummm if you could have fought your way through the queue to get to them maybe. Having tagged the bag, it was push back through people trying to reach the machines so we could join another unclear queue, one member of staff only in this area. Bag dropped at last, guess what, push back through original queue to get out of the area. Security staff just rude. Customer service, zero. Signage inadequate. Good layout to ease passenger flow and keep them relaxed to stop temps fraying, zero. Edinburgh airport made its customers feel like cattle being herded, I do not like being shouted at even if it is not directly at me but as part of a crowd. If a passenger had treated a member Edinburgh Airport staff, the same way, passengers were treated yesterday the police would have been called. It’s totally unacceptable and you need to totally rethink it!

User

Why is it every time i fly from Southampton to Edinburgh it takes roughly one hour to fly and 40 minutes to get a parking space, a stupid bus and then ten mile hike to get through the airport.

Fly all over and this place is the worst in the UK. Well done

User

What an absolute joke, Supposed to be a International airport? 3rd world countries could teach you some lessons. All the long term, short term parking , drop off traffic, pick up traffic, converge on ONE tiny road leading to the main road.. Total gridlock with drivers being in road rage mode as they try to nudge into the mostly halted, hardly moving queue of traffic.

This is the first experience many visitors to Scotland are welcomed with, what a poor impression they must get.

The SNP appear to be more interested in Heathrow's new runway to increase more flights to Scotland ( Just what Edinburgh Airport needs I don't think!) Try sorting out this airport first.

I'll be using Glasgow or Aberdeen from now on.

User

Unbelievably rude staff working in security at Edinburgh airport today. Rude, aggressive, patronising, unprofessional and disrepectful. For a start, your relatively new security area is a badly laid out shambles and is always very chaotic. Unfortunately your apparently badly trained staff take this out on passengers. For a start, I didn't expect a member of security staff to chuck a big tray (used for belongings) on my hand, on to my fingers and not apologise and ignore me when I told him he had actually hurt my hand. I also had to then deal with another cheeky chav telling me "it's no rocket science" when I apparently wasn't standing in the correct position in the body scanner. Very professional. The 3rd person, this time a female who ignored me and actually looked away when I was talking to her was just the icing on the cake of the absolutely shocking way I was treated in your security area today. Judging by this page, you don't even bother to reply to these reviews which is just another obvious sign of your lack of interest in taking care of ppl passing through your airport. You might also want to train your staff on the importance of treating ppl who dont speak great English with a bit more respect. The bald shouty guy who chucked a tray on to my hand was also being really rude to a very stressed man who was obviously really confused and not a native English speaker. Shouting "You can only use 1 bag which I have told you 10 times now!" isn't helpful. respectful or acceptable. If someone doesn't speak the language, shouting isn't going to make it better is it? And actually, he told him 3 times not 10. So be warned folks before you go through security at this airport that you might be spoken to like a piece of sh!t. As someone from Edinburgh, it's an utter embarassment. I'll be putting all this in an email as I don't expect to get a reply here. Absolute disgrace today. Really. Show your customers more respect and sort out your shambles of a security area.

User

Thankfully I heeded the warnings about the Royal Highland Show and got to the airport early for my flight this morning, not because there was any increased traffic on the roads that early (6am), but because inside the airport itself was a f*cking zoo. I’ve never seen so many people fighting in all directions to try and get to their check-in desk or up to departures. Why did you close off the main doors?? That would have helped remove the bottleneck some. Maybe stop celebrating the increased passenger numbers and look at how to treat the ones you do manage to retain a lot better than you do now? I was embarrassed at how this made Edinburgh, and Scotland, look to the visitors who were confronted with this absolute pandemonium. Way too much stress to start, what is meant to be, a relaxing holiday. I used to be an advocate of EDI but no more. Please fix it!! Oh and please fix or destroy all the trolleys that don’t work! Do you ever test them?

User

Terrible airport. Have the misfortune to have to use it often and every single time there is a problem. Massive delays and queues on landing you can sit on tarmac for ages waiting for a stance, often have to stand outside as customs hall can't accommodate everyone, baggage very often takes a long time to come off the plane, queues in cramped conditions in security, rude and harassed staff at gates and traffic at a stand still in airport grounds ironically enough used express Edin Airport long stay parking and had to walk to terminal building as bus stuck in traffic and would have missed flight if I had been on it. This is supposed to be Scotland's capital city airport it is an embarassing disgrace.

User

Stuck on the tarmac not able to leave the plane as not only did it take forever for a bus to arrive, there is only one for the whole plane so we just have to sit here while it goes round and round. Do I get any compensation for this below acceptable service???

User

Poor signage on both arrival and departure in relation to car rental, nothing on the first overhead signs you see on entering arrivals. On returning to the airport the sign is the wrong side of the roundabout and easily missed.

The departure hall is utter chaos! Huge queue blocking the entrance with no obvious information as to what it is. Negotiate past it only to find out you have to push back past and join the end. All passengers, all destinations for EasyJet Ryanair and Flybe pushed into one bag drop area. Once bags tagged you have to walk against the flow of other passengers to then drop the bag. Felt extremely sorry for the limited number of staff trying to manage the flow. Queue jumping either deliberate or unintentional adds to the stress. Finally having dropped the bag you have to try and negotiate back through the queues to go through to security.

A worse layout and flow would be hard to find, possibly the worst airport experience we have had aside from Kerala or Columbo years ago

User

One of the worst experiences at this airport. Makes me ashamed to say I’m from Edinburgh. Their auto bag check is so bad that it wouldn’t register a bag, I had to go to manual check in. This caused me to miss my flight. The place is understaffed and is laid out badly! Some (not all) of the bag staff who should help people just stare blankly at you and give disgusted looks. I understand that it’s busy and they’re stressed but it doesn’t take much to help people.

User

Holding people in a queue for the self check in was a joke.

20 people queuing for someone to check their ticket before they could use the machines, of which at leat 10 were free as we were all held up in a pointless queue.

Let people do it for themselves and have a staff member oversee the area if anyone needs help

I know I have a boarding pass as I printed it myself, I don’t need to stand in a queue for someone to confirm it.

Once through security, which is had no issue with, the mess!!! OMG, do the airport not employ staff to clean??!

It was 10am and there was rubbish everywhere!!

I know we should all use bins, but some others don’t seem to follow that rule and leave it wherever they were sitting, it was everywhere you turned and not one person to make sure the place was cleaned

Dirty seats and extremely sticky floors

It was disgusting.

The toilets they can’t be checked regularly.

I had to go twice while I waited for my delayed flight, a couple of hours apart

Let’s just say I’ve used better toilets at

T In The Park!

Costa Coffee!!! All those members of staff behind the counter and not one person can pull their ass away to clear tables?!!!

It’s not as if you were busy!!

10am and your whole area looked like it hadn’t been cleaned for days

I didn’t even bother to get a coffee

I went to Nero instead, so much cleaner!

If travelling to Edinburgh airport make sure you bring your hand gel as you will need it!

Have been flying out of and back to Edinburgh Airport regularly for the last few years and have the following to offer:

=> The design of the customer movement through the airport is excruciatingly painful. There is NOTHING in the design of this airport which is about you, the flyer. It is about winkling every possible penny out of you. From ludicrous parking arrangements and fees, to forcing you to go in and out the dusty bluebells through every shop in the place.

=> The check in downstairs is how I imagine things must have been in the coliseum in it's heyday. It's like running with the bulls in Pamplona. No signs, no order, no clue, no staff, no clarity, no order ... just the purest form of chaos. Utterly humiliating to imaging how visitors the city must feel arriving amid this lunacy. How can it get to this? I have lost count of the number of times that I would have missed my flight if I had sheepishly waited in the queues I was supposed to. Imagine 500 ppl queuing for 2 desks and your about there.

=> Security check. Rude, Insane layouts. Staff who love to treat customers like they are idiots. Not a hint of humanity or assistance. Just brutal.

=> Waiting for baggage. I have never waited less than about 45-50 minutes for bags. Easily and by far the worst baggage experience at any airport, ever.

Overall, this airport is like a ultra-greedy wannabe shopping mall run by delinquents who as a grudging afterthought, have to put you on and get you off planes. In between making life difficult for you.

Next trip in in a week or two. I so wish there were an alternative to this Zoo.

User

Had the worst airport experience this morning

Queuing to get through security to board was a nightmare

Stood for 45 min before I had to find someone to get me through, had to run for my plane with a lot of other passengers

Due to this I’m sure all flights are always delayed at the airport

Most definitely will never fly out from Edinburgh again

User

Got to security x-ray, and put everything In two trays. Picks up the two trays after scanning and go to one of the desks to get it all back together again. Then discovery NO wallet and NO phone ! Head back with my bag to the collection point and then see a third tray with my wallet and phone on display! Told the girl there that this is a recipe for disaster where people pick up the trays they loaded only. How are they to know that security have added a tray????? She couldnt care less! (Seems typical from my experience of flying from EDI). So - looks like next time I will be hogging the collection point until I am sure that I have everything, and no added tray. Terrible service, relying on people being in a hurry. I could have been minus my wallet today!

User

Edinburgh airport is by a long way the worst airport I have the misfortune of having to use. The access road is completely inadequate, particularly first thing in the morning. Security is a joke and really really stressful and unpleasant. Departure gates are overcrowded and always too hot. The only thing that works is the shopping section they force you to walk through. Passport control never fails to remind me how bad the airport is as a whole when I come home. Oh wait, that would be waiting for your luggage. Come on EDI, get it right!!

User

Dreadful fiasco. Embarrassed for Scotland if this is all Edinburgh Airport has to offer. After landing, had to wait on the plane as there were no buses to take passengers to the terminal. Upon reaching the terminal seething with people, we were told to fill out landing cards, standing in a massive throng of people with four little children, now we have to try filling out cards with no solid surface to support said cards. Digging out passports for idiotic required information. Then the car rental, another sad story, after we found the Arnold Clark cleverly disguised black phone on the wall we then trailed through the multi storey car park, cars jockeying for position at the drop off point and us trying to cross between them with little children to try to find our pick up point. Three hours after disembarking we finally made it to the car rental office after a seven hour flight.*Shakes one's head*

Disgraceful: disgraceful management of security queues, of people flows,

gates.... Gate 1 was completely saturated - not the passengers’ fault. Your staff is unable to make clear announcements. No one knows who they are calling, what they are saying or which Group they are boarding. No announcements made in other languages,m.... Gate 1K is currently chaos and is not more chaotic because passengers relayed the messages issued from the boarding desk. Thankfully I had priority boarding and went through quickly.....

User

Completely horrendous experience! Anyone flying to this airport (despite which airline) should seriously avoid. The special assistance desk staff are rude, unhelpful and basically clueless - will deny any pre-booking of special assistance (eg ambulift), the security is a complete joke taking my girlfriend's crutch away from her and not giving it back (a woman patting my girlfriend down also started yanking at her heat patch on her back without any consent or warning. And then the special assistance.. what has that £2 million pounds been spent on? No communication between boarding gate staff members and the special assistance team to find out who needs what (a very stupid boarding gate staff member just shrugged her shoulders and sent an elderly lady down the stairs seconds before someone from the special assistance team arrived only to confirm that the ambulift was ready and waiting!!)

And to top it off, many items of ours were lost in the security check including my mother's glasses and my girlfriend's crutch. There is absolutely NO WAY I will return to this airport ever, I will instead find another way to travel to avoid this pathetic and badly run airport.

User

By far the worst airport we have ever been to. Zero communication or help from staff. From not enough check in desks causing massive queues that block off the walk ways, security backed so far back you can't even access the lines NO ONE directing people. Pretty much all flights were delayed with no announcements about it just keeping people waiting with no information. Clearly the airport is not designed for the level of traffic that is coming through as all the food and drink outlets, toilets and seating areas were full and had large queues. Complete joke.

User
