The Edinburgh Assay Office has been testing and hallmarking precious metals since 1457 and today services some of the world's premier jewellery brands. Our primary service is to assay and subsequently apply hallmarks to articles of gold, silver, platinum and palladium in compliance with National and International regulations. Delivering a consistently high quality of workmanship, fast turnaround and a high standard of customer service are our key business objectives - across the full range of our services. In addition to our standard hallmarking, we offer additional services, developed to keep pace with the demands of the industry. Additional services include Hallmarking in Transit, Hallmarking and Fulfilment and Embedded Hallmarking. These services are provided either from our Edinburgh office or our sub-office, located in Heathrow, where goods can pass through to be hallmarked on a temporary release from bond or on site at a manufacturing location. The Edinburgh Assay Office also developed the world's first digital trustmark for online jewellery retailers, Assay Assured. The scheme is underpinned by a strict code of conduct and provides an independent arbitration service for retailers and consumers.
