We contacted the home after our beloved collie passed away at Xmas. Our other dogs were missing having a lady dog in their lives.

We live in Shetland and taking our dogs to the mainland to meet a prospective new addition was impossible for a couple of reasons.

We had a good long chat with the kennel manager about our situation and the type of dog that would fit into our family.

A few weeks later they got in contact to let us know they had a dog in that fitted the bill. Polly had been found as a stray. She was scared, overweight and had some masses on her. Getting the veterinary care she needed and masses removed and found to be benign, and the nurturing care she needed from the wonderful staff at the Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home to build her confidence again she was ready to be rehomed.

We officially adopted her yesterday and she is now in her forever home. I can't thank these wonderful folk enough for all they have done.

User

We adopted Benny in july after our two boxer died 6 months between both and went down to look at the dog's at the kennels with little or no intentions of combing back with a dog I did say a dog but in fact we brought Benny home he is all but 52kilo the size of a Shetland pony and he greets you with a pink squeaky toy he is so soft how could anyone not love this dog we have had him now 10months now he gets on with other dogs and is friends with humans as well all the staff were so friendly and help full

User

Unfortunately had to give up our lovely wee Jack Russel taffy boy 3 weeks ago due to a home move and could not take him with us but now happy to hear this morning that he has been rehomed to a loving home. Miss him loads, my wee smiley boy

Any questions you might have there’s always someone available to answer, there’s lots of amazing animals just waiting for the right owner, would highly recommend!!!

User

These folks do a wonderful job we adopted our lovely handsome dozer we can't thank all the team enough he has settled in and has made himself at home can't such a handsome loving boy

User

There is not enough words I can use to explain the kindness and support that Edinburgh Dog and Cat home have given me and my Dogs the last few months. Without your guys kindness and love towards animals I would not of been able to have 'my babies' with me now. You have all been so fantastic with Kaizer and Kleo and I know they have been very loved and cared for whilst with you.

Once again thank you for everything

You are all fantastic and do an amazing job x

User

Rehomed my boy (Stanley) in April after waiting since October. All the staff very friendly and happy for me to come multiple times per week to visit. EDCH gave Stanley a lot of care while his injuries gained as a stray were healing. It's because of their great care that Stanley is able to be a normal dog again

Myself and my girlfriend rehomed Buddy one week ago and we are very impressed with our new dog (Buddy, Shar Pei) as well as the overall experience.

Shaun was Buddy's assigned walker and his primary carer during his time at the home. As soon as I met him, I could see he was very passionate about rehoming Buddy and despite us already having a breed of dog quite different in size to Buddy, he put in maximum effort to socialise the dogs. Taking Buddy long walks to tire him before meeting our other dog and doing everything possible to help them get along paid off as they took to each other surprisingly well.

Shaun was always cautious and careful about Buddy and took time to ensure we were a good match. Something I'd say to anybody visiting the centre in the hopes of a new dog, please don't assume that if a dog is a little boisterous, mouthy or loud at the home, that they won't calm down. I visited with my friend on one visit who thought Buddy was too much for Maggie (our french bulldog) and I have taken great pleasure in proving to him how calm and respectful Buddy is around the home.

I am absolutely shocked at how quickly Buddy settled and made his home is own. He also showed manners and obeyed commands immediately which is only a testament to the efforts of Shaun and the rest of the kennel team who were fantastic with him. He definitely has an underlying discipline which came into play as soon as he entered our home.

We were also given lots of information from Shaun about where to go next such as training classes, being firm and were also advised to be very careful about Buddy off the lead. With that, we have been training him on his recall and I'm sure Shaun will be pleased that in a safe fielded area we have managed to get Buddy recalling completely within one week.

I hope the team stays the way it is for a long time as I am already telling anyone who is looking for a new dog or cat how awesome the team is.

There is still a lot of time for things to play out, however, the first week has been such a breeze and we're very happy with our new dog.

Thanks so much!!

I got my staffie cross here about 18 months ago and the staff were lovely. You could really tell that they care about the dogs and want to make sure the dog and owner are a good match.

I had already chosen the dog I wanted but the staff asked plenty of questions to make sure I was making the right choice and were so kind and helpful. I've also brought a stray dog here before and again the staff were lovely. They also ensure your dog is neutered, mircrochipped and vaccinated before they leave! I'd definitely come here for another dog.

User

I cannot thank all the staff enough for all their kindness and compassion they show each and every day to all the animals there.

I had the great privilage of getting my dog Riley from here and had just under 2 wonderful years with him.

The staff all adored him and he felt like a superstar anytime he went in to boarding.

He had been badly abused but through the great dedication, kindness and unconditional love they showed him, I got the great prize of a wonderful dog for 2 yrs once he was nursed back to health.

Keep up the great work and I will continue to support this great organisation.

Thanks

H Urquhart & Riley (RIP) X

Had never been down this route before(always had pups before). Wanted to rehome a dog this time around. Excellent experience all round. Helpful, informative staff, lots of really good advice & help. We brought home Scoobie & he is part of our family already, just settled right in with our other dogs, like he's always been here!! Really impressed with all at the Edinburgh dog & cat home

User

Ever so thankful that my husband and I were to be Stuart Little’s new owners . Brought him home on Thursday and can honestly say it’s just what I needed . We rehomed Tia from edch 15 years ago and sadly had to put her to sleep two months ago. Was sure we didn’t want a puppy due to chewing toilet tracing etc , hand on my heart I’m so glad we popped in on off chance. Stewie as he is now called has slotted himself into our lives perfectly. All he needs is some socialisation and training , half way done on the toilet training. All in all I cannot fault any member of staff we spoke with , what they do day in day out is commendable. Will pop in soon with him for a wee catch up.

User

EDCH were wonderful helping us choose and adopt our new family member Buddy The Dog Back in 2005. He gave us ten years of joy, hugs and laughter and we can’t imagine all those years without his funny wonky face. Thank you EDCH gang for bringing us together.

As a veterinary student undertaking work placement, I get to see 'behind the scenes' of Edinburgh cats and dogs home. The effort put in by the staff to make each and every animal get the absolute best from such a sad situation is incredible. Additionally, I am shocked by the kindness from the public with regards to donations; I have never seen so many blankets, toys and treats in my life!

So keep up the great work and lots of love to the beautiful furry babies this Christmas xxxxx

User

After years of daily calling trying to find a little non terrier type dog. My perfect little chico ' new wee boy' came in. I went to see him dropped to the floor of the kennels, where he pee'd all over me in excitement and we've been inseparable since! 4.5 years ago.

He's changed my life and actually become an amazing foster sibling to about 30 silverfox dogs rescued too. Fostering helped with chicos socialisation as he'd been kept in a handbag previously.

Thank you for this little blessing, I will always be grateful x

User

A huge thank you to everyone at Edinburgh cat and dog home for taking wonderful care of our beautiful boy Reggie Vincent. He is a black lab and was boarding for the first time for 12 nights.

2years ago the Edinburgh dog&cat home gave me the best wee friend in the world, Henry is a one in a million dog and I couldn't imagin my life without him! The dog&cat home looked after him brilliantly for the year that he was in their care! Would recommend to anyone thinking of getting a new pet that they go down to the dog &cat home because they put so much love and effort into the animals in their care! Well done for the amazing work you guys do! Will pop along for a visit with Henry soon and bring some goodies for the dogs

User

Very poor experience. The kennel staff could not be more helpful, but the front desk people look like they would be rather be anywhere else but helping the public. Been to the kennels 3 times and come away with nothing. The last time when i took my dog to meet possible companions i was told that there was no compatible dogs, which was fine but the way in which i was spoken too and treated left a very bad taste in my mouth.

I have had 2 dogs from a rehoming centre, but i can assure you i will not be back to EDCH.
