Elli (Assisted Living Technology) Ltd trading under the brand name of ellihome is a new company established to design and manufacture Assisted Living Technology (ALT) for older people. ALT is defined as "Any product or service designed to enable independence for disabled and older people" or "products or services defied to support independent living". ellihome's usp is high quality, well designed ALT products for older people, attributes that are surprisingly absent from the market. Although most products currently available meet technical and regulatory requirements, their look-and-feel is overwhelmingly institutional. The result is to stigmatise their users in a negative and unnecessary way. ellihome has been set up by the Directors of The Home Straight Ltd, Scotland's only social enterprise offering moving, downsizing and ageing in place solutions for older people and their families. It will commence operations by focusing on and ‘entry level' suite of three ALT products that are generally needed together once a person's mobility begins to reduce: • Toilet Frames• Shower Stools• Grab RailsThese will be aimed at older people who are: • already less mobile and need to make their home environment safer or • who expect to become less mobile and are wanting to future proof their home environment and• who care about aesthetic and design in their home and who have disposable income to buy high quality beautifully designed items of adaptive equipmentOther generations with mobility issues could also benefit from them. High quality, affordable, well designed assisted living technology is not that easy to find. A new generation of older people have become accustomed to high design standards in the everyday products they take for granted - from their iPhones to their cars. This prosperous demographic expects no less from the household equipment that they purchase to maintain their independence and wellbeing. By meeting these new, higher design expectations, we believe that we have the potential to be a game changer.
