The Outstanding People awards took place on Wednesday 14 November in Ayr Town Hall.
Three of our trainees attended the event as nominees in the Outstanding Trainee category.
Congratulations to Nicole Hendren on being annouced as this years GOLD winner and a huge well done to Dominic Downie and Sanabel Dawod on receiving the SILVER award.

Christopher was initially referred to Employability and Skills in 2016. During this time, Christopher completed an Activity Agreement where he took part in various activities. This included groups focusing on cookery, photography and fitness, as well as a ‘Get Ready for Work’ group.
After developing his skills and confidence on this programme, Christopher then started a work experience placement at Savers in Troon. This allowed Christopher to gain experience in customer serv...ice; working with stock; health & safety; and team work. Christopher’s confidence really grew during this time and he then progressed onto our Stage 2 Employability Fund programme.
As a part of this programme, Christopher completed the Introduction to Workplace Skills Award and continued his placement at Savers. Christopher received excellent feedback from Savers and progressed onto our Stage 3 programme. In order to gain further experience in the retail sector, Christopher left Savers in order to complete placements at Stagecoach in Kilmarnock, and then Morrisons in Troon.
While at Morrisons, Christopher was able to experience most departments in the store including trolleys; replenishment; the in-store café; reductions; and the petrol filling station. Christopher really enjoyed this placement and worked really well with his colleagues there. While placed in the café, Christopher helped the team achieve a brilliant score of 100 during a mystery shopper visit and the staff in the café got Christopher a gift when he finished as a ‘thank you’ for his hard work.
We would like to thank all of the employers that have helped Christopher develop his skills during this time. Pictured below is Christopher with the management team at Morrisons in Troon.
On his time with Employability and Skills, Christopher said:
“Gemma (Christopher’s Employability and Skills Officer) was a great worker and the council were really helpful with helping me to get a CV done. I really enjoyed all my placements and really felt like a member of staff at Morrisons. I’m now looking for employment and hope to secure something soon”
Christopher has now completed his training with Employability and Skills and has secured employment with South Ayrshire Council. Congratulations, Christopher! We wish you very best moving forward.

Personal Development Group 🎳🎱
Yesterday the group went bowling as part of their last day activity.
The young people will now engage in different groups / workshops or progress on to our (SDS) Employability Fund programmes

Day o’ The Deid Workshop
On Tuesday the young people were invited along to the Town Hall to make a sculpture using wicker, they then returned on Thursday to decorate their sculptures.
