A merchant vessel SSL STAR loaded with hundreds of containers went down in Shahid Rajaei Port, south of Iran, Tuesday morning.
The vessel was getting berthed in the Iranian port when it started sinking, an informed source told the Iranian official media outlet.

Shahid Rajaei Port is the biggest and the most equipped Bandar of its kind that covers 80 percent of container operations in Iran.
All the 14 crew members were Indian, an Iranian official said.
The height of the ship from its bottom to its top is about 25 metres. Part of the ship is outside the water and the other part is below the sea level. The reason for the incident is not clear yet.

CLAIMING they're starved and underpaid, sailors on board a coal ship off Hay Point, near Mackay, have appealed for help but a transport union says BHP is blocking its attempts to act.... Since the Villa Deste berthed off Hay Point on January 24, the International Transport Workers' Federation has attempted to board the 80,000-tonne bulk carrier multiple times to follow up on claims the crew has no food and no onboard wages, and is being fed on a $4 a day food budget. According to the IFT, BHP has blocked their requests to inspect the vessel. "Seafarers are starving at BHP's terminal in Queensland, and if BHP continues to deny the ITF access, ignoring these seafarers' most basic rights to be fed and paid, then it is no better than the worst Flag of Convenience operators,ŌĆØ ITF national co-ordinator Dean Summers said in a statement issued on Tuesday. "BHP told media .... that the vessel was not chartered by the company, but it's BHP coal being sold and loaded onto the Villa Deste, Mr Summers said. "To now claim that they have no responsibility for the conditions onboard these vessel when they arrive at their port, to load their coal, demonstrates an extraordinary failure to uphold basic ethical standards in their global supply chain. "ITF inspectors along with faith-based welfare providers have rights to access ships clearly defined in the international maritime security code and Australia's national security legislation. "BHP claim to have a process for access, but continue to refuse our requests and question our legitimate right of entry,ŌĆØ he said. The Liberian-flagged Villa Deste is owned by a Greek company, Evalend Shipping Company SA.

Mega container ship EVER GIVEN while moving downstream on Elbe river, brushed ferry boat FINKENWERDER (MMSI 211437300, length 25 m), berthed at Blankenese ferry pier, below Hamburg, at around 0825 UTC Feb 9. Giant ship wasnŌĆÖt out of control and didnŌĆÖt stray off course, judging from track. She just moved too close to ferry pier, brushing small local ferry boat. EVER GIVEN moved on without stopping, because an emergency stop of such a giant ship in cramped narrows, not to menti...on river, is an accident in itself. Nor did EVER GIVEN hit tiny FINKENWERDER, as local media erroneously assumed, or else there wouldnŌĆÖt be anything left of boat, except some debris. Even slight touch was enough though, to inflict heavy damages on a ferry. EVER GIVEN continued her voyage from Hamburg to Rotterdam, and as of 1400 UTC was already in North sea.
