About Enactus Edinburgh

Shape a better, more sustainable world and transform lives through entrepreneurial action.

Enactus Edinburgh Description

Enactus is an international organization that connects student, academic and business leaders through entrepreneurial-based projects that empower people to transform opportunities into real, sustainable progress for themselves and their communities.

At Enactus Edinburgh we work as a team to create and see through sustainable and ethical projects which change people's lives and give us the experience we need to build a successful career. As a social enterprise we believe in doing business to create a better world by not simply handing out help to people in need, but working side-by-side with them to create opportunities. Therefore, every person and community we touch is empowered to live up to their fullest potential.

This more or less follows a famous chinese proverb:
"Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a life time. “

The South Africa Challenge is not a charity aid expedition. It is a hands on international enterprise and leadership challenge for individuals of high potential. You will be taken out of your comfort zone and challenged to use and build your capacity to deliver projects and products that have the potential to strengthen and support the work of our local delivery partners and the communities they support.
We believe this initiative shares similar values to what we try to pract...ice everyday at Enactus Edinburgh. Applications are now open for the South Africa Challenge: https://www.southafricachallenge.co.uk/ap ply…
Deadline is in 2 days!

“Ohhhhh my god, I love lasagna.”
Thea then went on to defend her adoration for layered food. She truly. Truly. Truly loves layered food. Truly.
Question: “Tell me a little bit about yourself, and what you do at Enactus Edinburgh?”
... Thea: “I’m a second-year student studying International Relations and International Law, I’m in The Edinburgh Bee Collective, and my role is Sales and Marketing.”
Thea is far from shy, she’s keen on starting her own Enactus project and like many other members of Enactus Edinburgh, she hopes to bring her confidence and skills into humanitarian and SME consultancy, with a focus on individuals and small businesses in South Asia, the origins of her family.
Born and raised in Japan, Thea is super keen on living in Bangladesh to solidify her cultural connections, however she’d still like to live in Edinburgh and Kawasaki for some time before she reconnects.
Question: “What’s your favourite sport?”
Thea: “I don’t have the hand-eye coordination for sport, but I do like watching!”
Question: “How about to watch then?”
Thea: “I like watching football. I don’t care about teams and stuff but it's nice to watch. I have terrible eyesight, I can see the ball and just two blurry men pushing each other but it’s fun to watch!”
I guess we’re all fortunate that Thea can’t ride a bike given her amazing eyesight.
When asked what she might do if she won a million pounds her response was a mixture of generosity and pure boredom with money; either way apparently everyone will be getting a laptop or a car, so honestly, I think we should all try and get in her good graces in case she ever wins a million.
Thea is a great person, however she does have a dark side.
She knows all the words to Taylor Swift’s albums.
Question: “Mean Girls or High School Musical?”
Thea: “As a movie Mean Girls, as a franchise High School Musical.” #thea #nawal #enactus #edinburgh #humansofenactus #HoE #EE #Japan #Kawasaki #Sustainable #Humanitarian #probiker #candles #sanitarypads #development #leadership #Socialenterprise #empowerment

This Human of Enactus was interviewed by Hannah Gearing, the Palma marketing lead. She’s also currently working on our quarterly progress report and marketing tools for the upcoming societies fair. We’re lucky to have her at Enactus Edinburgh!
Question: “Do you prefer Halloween or Christmas?”
Brian: “Um…Christmas. Why? I just think it’s a lot more wholesome.”
... Brian Kim, but more commonly known by his initials, BK, is a 1st-year student studying biology, currently working for Enactus Edinburgh’s Slurp project in the business development area.
An overall very chilled-out, easy-going person, BK enjoys watching K-dramas and going out for some really good Korean BBQ with friends. Growing up in Seoul he definitely sticks to his roots, but his dream is to go paragliding in Switzerland for its breathtaking views.
Question: “What do you like to do in your spare time?”
Brian: “I guess gymming.”
Question: “Are you into protein-shakes and stuff?”
Brian: “Yeah. I get the double dark chocolate powder.”
When Brian’s not in the gym, you’ll find him composing on his laptop using an electronic piano, tuba, and guitar to make some nice tunes. Or if he’s just chilling, he’s probably watching a Korean dating-show or eating fried chicken at Sodaeng, a Korean restaurant close to George Square.
I’m not going to lie, Brian let me down a bit when he’s said he’s never watched High School Musical or Mean Girls, but he’s recommended some K-dramas like ‘Along the Gods’ that I’ll definitely have a look at this holiday.
Question: “If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?”
Brian: “Still Korea, it’s just so convenient. You can also get food delivery anywhere and anytime.”
Thank you all for supporting Enactus Edinburgh this semester and this year as we reached new heights and accomplished long-sought-after goals. We’d like to wish a happy new year to everyone, let all your resolutions, aspirations and dreams come true!

Question: “What’s your guiltiest of guilty pleasures?”
Mariana: “I like, like listening and learning about true crime and stuff and it freaks my family out, I don’t know why I do it, but I like it a lot.
Question: “Cool. Cool. Cool. Is this like a confession?”
... Mariana: “I don’t want to kill anyone I just want to figure out why people would want to!”
Mariana Sanborn, I’m sure that when next we see her name it’ll be for some humanitarian award and not on a documentary about serial killers – most likely because she probably knows enough to avoid being caught. All jokes aside, Mariana has a lovely heart, a heart that has all the time in the world for the environment and greyhounds, probably more so greyhounds than the environment but I’m sure mother nature can wait.
The 2nd year student studies Sustainable Development with a pathway in Anthropology, she is the current Education Coordinator at the Edinburgh Bee Collective.
Question: “If you never had to work a day in your life what would you do?”
Mariana: “I’d probably spend half the time travelling and the other time getting as educated as possible, just learning everything and becoming super wise. . . like this crazy wise lady who travels across the world.”
Should she become this crazy rich and wise lady who travels the world, if you ever wanted to find her or if you perhaps also become a crazy rich and wise person and your paths intersect you might find her in Colombia, DC, right here in Edinburgh or far east in Tokyo, or somewhere warm like Australia or Kenya.
She’s not much for sports, but something tells me if you like Fargo or Spirited Away then you might just be in her good books – and based on her interests that’s where you should hope to be.
Her ideal career scenario would be to work for or run an environmental law firm, a lot of the projects would be pro-bono while the rest would come in the form of legal consultancy to non-sustainable businesses.
Question: “Do you have any Nicknames you like being called?”
Mariana: “My mom calls me Maricakes.”

Amidst the grey Edinburgh weather shone beautiful candles crafted by Edinburgh Candle Company’s beneficiaries. Their passionate efforts have certainly not gone unnoticed as they are November’s Spotlight project of the month!! ❤️ ECC have been consistently remarkable throughout the semester – all its members are resourceful, organised and dedicated. They cooperate and work like the happiest family you’ll ever meet, and honestly, it’s almost Christmas so I wouldn’t mind being ...adopted. ❤️ They’ve performed practice interviews and workshops with their beneficiaries throughout the year to improve their presentation and communication skills; some interviews have been conducted in preparation for real interviews with bodies such as the NHS. ❤️ Candles have brought out 12 delightful Christmas scents and are set to work with one of our other projects, Lilypads, in a bid to create a candle to support the aims of both enterprises. This isn’t the first time Candles have shown great initiative and eagerness to work with other projects and I doubt it’ll be the last. ❤️ They’ll also be introducing a new scent in the new year, targeted to be released by valentine’s day. So, whether you’ll be spending that day with your partner, your mother, or your cats, you’ll have the opportunity to make it even better with the delightful aroma of ECC’s candles. ❤️ Congratulations Edinburgh Candle Company!!
