Just carried out my 2nd compliance assessment this month and on reflection i thought i will share this VERY important compliance element with you.
Do you have regular Practice Meetings?
... Inspector will be looking for evidence of good governance and leadership and will want to see that you have protected time in your diary for regular team meetings at least monthly.

Compliance is a huge ongoing task and can not be achieved in isolation by management only. When you hold regular practice meetings...
▪️It demonstrates effective in-house communications and team involvement ▪️it encourages learning culture and creates opportunities to make improvements to services ▪️it’s a great team building activity and boosts your team’s morale and motivation as you make decisions together ▪️it can be used as a training session to cover compliance subjects and gives staff members in lead roles an opportunity to build their confidence and practice presentation skills - fills them with sense of importance and achievement ▪️it creates and builds up written evidence for your inspection day as you will have detailed agenda’s, meeting minutes, delegated tasks, set deadlines and monthly revisions of your team’s achievements as well as outstanding matters.

COMPLIANCE TIP (disability access): One of the areas i often see practices need to make improvements on is their bathroom.
... If you have a disability access, then these are applicable elements inspector (and I) will be looking for:
- bathroom mirror lower down so anyone in a wheelchair can see themselves
- good contrast in skirtings for visually impaired
- hand railings (different colour to the wall for contrast)
- emergency bathroom cord (applicable to all practices regardless of disability access)
- be able to unlock from the outside should there be a medical emergency and access required
- ensure good stock of disposables (paper towels, toilet roll, hand-soap)
- good decor and cleanliness throughout, evidence of spot checks (build this responsibility culture within your team)
- carry out disability access audit
- In case you do not have a disability access - make alternative arrangements with your colleagues to ensure access to care for your patients.
