About Ettrickbridge Scottish Womans Institute

Ettrickbridge SWI is definitely a friendly group of "girls" who share lots of fun and laughter.
Our meetings take place once a month in Kirkhope Hall. Part of the Selkirkshire Federation of SWI, our members are mainly from the Ettrick Valley and Selkirk.

Whether it is crafts, cooking, gardening, interesting speakers or just socialising that floats your boat or if you want some "me time", come along and meet us.

The Scottish Women's Institutes (SWI), informally called "the Rural", is a registered charity which promotes the preservation of Scotland's traditions and rural heritage, particularly in the sphere of household activities. It does so by means of local groups of women which meet regularly throughout the country.

It was formed in 1917 as the Scottish Rural Women's Institutes, part of the movement of rural women's institutes started in Stoney Creek, Ontario in 1897. The first meeting in Scotland look place at Longniddry in East Lothian.

The name changed to Scottish Women's Institutes in 2015
