Gorgeous 9 week old Dalmation puppy Puzzle came to visit vet Meg today for his first vaccination. He was very brave!
We will see him back in 4 weeks time for his second vaccination, then we will invite him back for monthly weigh and worms with our nurses which will also encourage him to become confident in the practice environment for future visits!

Lovely Labradors Rolo and Moss come to see us for laser therapy sessions to help ease their arthritic joints now they are older. They are off on their summer holidays to enjoy some beach walks. Happy holidays!

If variety is the spice of life - we have it in buckets at FCVG!
Andrew examined "Lola" a beautiful bearded dragon yesterday, by contrast, tonight he was on his way home from another Highland pony foaling and saw a herd of red deer hinds and a lone red stag in the next field! #perthshire #vetslife

Rory is extremely lucky to be alive. His owner's quick actions meant he dodged death by minutes. He was rushed in to our Perth branch collapsed, going blue, unable to breathe properly and going into heart failure as his stomach had suddenly bloated to the size of a football. Our amazing team jumped into action, we confirmed a gastric dilation with partial torsion within minutes by X-ray. Our nurses Ana, Diana, Emma and Lauren place two Intravenous lines within seconds and com...batted his severe shock by giving him crash volumes of IV fluids rapidly. Then vet Fiona anaesthetised him and passed a stomach tube. We removed lots of gas and several pints of stomach contents. Siphoning out the putrid liquid meant that Fiona got one or two mouthfuls!
Next, we maintained him under the anaesthetic, while we confirmed his stomach had gone down, was staying down and was no longer twisted. Rory is an old boy, but he seems to have gained a new lease of life since this close call!
His mum brought us a lovely box of biscuits which were greatly appreciated.
It's important to be able to recognise and act on the signs of "bloat" or "GDV - gastric dilation and volvulus" in your dog.
It is rapidly fatal if unrecognised.

"Joel" a beautiful rag doll kitten and "Baxter" a handsome border terrier. Both enjoyed their breakfast and booster consultations at Auchterarder this morning!

User

Auchterarder breakfast consultations: Most of our patients take their annual check ups completely in their stride! "Dec" made the most of the free breakfast on offer this morning at our Auchterarder branch, after he'd had his vaccination! "Dec" lost his brother "Ant" a long time ago, he has a new female companion now and looks amazing for his 13.5 years!

We all love helping animals, but it's often a tough job for everyone in the team- thank you's make all the difference.
Anyone who works at a vet practice will tell you that it is the kind gestures from clients that make our day. So.... a big thank you to three lovely clients who made our week today.

It's been a busy week rounded off with some lovely visitors to our Perth and Auchterarder branches this morning.

Thankfully, after being bitten by a dog little "Hesco" the duck only sustained a dislocated "knee" rather than a fracture - our team were preparing to fix a fracture but Hesco was allowed home and prescribed rest and painkillers.

Polly realised she is able to go home with her owner after 5 days of intensive care and surgery to remove a large part of her fractured jaw!

User

Here is little Polly the Norfolk Terrier- she's amazing! On Monday she got into a disagreement with a much bigger dog whom she knows. Normally they are great friends.
Unfortunately Polly was bitten very badly across her skull and her jaw was fractured in several places. She lost a lot of blood, she was very shocked and struggling to breathe when she came in to us on Monday morning.
... After treating her pain and shock, our team took radiographs and inserted a feeding tube into her oesophagus. As her condition stabilised, we discussed the options carefully with her owner. We made the decision together to remove her right lower jaw and many of her teeth which had been dislodged due to the trauma. She was nursed carefully by our whole team. We were all delighted when she started to eat on Wednesday. She continued to improve and went home yesterday! She is a real character!
See the other video- when she sees her owner again and is excited to be going home.
