Fairy Hill Cottage sits at the bottom of the Fairy Hill, where in local legend the Queen of the Fairies resides.

The cottage is located a short walk from the famous Kildalton Cross and Chapel, and is near three of Islay's eight famous distilleries. Islay is also known as Whisky Island due to the large number of whisky distilleries.

Travelling to the cottage from the village of Port Ellen you will pass Laphroaig Distillery, Lagavulin Distillery and Ardbeg Distillery. Ardbeg is in walking distance and there is now a footpath from Ardbeg distillery to Lagavulin and Laphroaig.

The cottage is surrounded by wildlife such as red and fallow deer, local beaches with grey and common seals, many different species of birds including golden eagles, not to mention frogs, toads and dragonflies. The cottage is also home to bats which are protected, and house martins who nest during the spring and summer months on the side wall of the cottage. During Mid September to October you will hear the call of the male red deer during the rutting season.

The Isle of Islay has an airport with regular flights from Glasgow international airport. There are two ferry terminals at Port Askaig and Port Ellen (Port Ellen being 6 miles from the cottage) with ferries departing from Kennicraig to Islay.

It is important to note that Fairy Hill Cottage is in a remote location and the nearest bus stop is at Ardbeg. There is a car rental service on the island, bicycle rentals, as well as local buses and taxi services. The distillery also runs buses from Port Ellen for their tours.
