About Figurenotes

Want to read music?

Figurenotes makes reading music easy! We use three simple stages to take you from complete beginner to music master.

Figurenotes Description

You can learn to play and read music using Figurenotes. Each note has a colour (all the Cs are red, Ds are brown, etc. ) and each octave has a shape.

You can either match the notes on the page with stickers on your instrument, or learn the finger pattern for each note.

Rhythm is shown very literally. The note is as long as it looks. All bars are the same size throughout a piece, making it very easy to see how long to play a note.

You can progress through 3 simple stages, which results in reading conventional notation. People can play the same music, just read differently, making this style of learning truly inclusive.

A great way to play and teach! Perfect for groups of varying abilities and musicians with a wide range of needs.

Early Years - Great for littluns to learn the basics of music and get playing together early. Develop their creativity with composition activities and games using colour and shape.

Additional Support Needs, such as Dyslexia - this eliminates the visual disturbance people get from horizontal black and white lines, squiggles and dots. Laid out in a much clearer format. Reading music has been shown to improve reading in people with dyslexia, especially in terms of scanning.

Autism Spectrum Disorder - The literal nature of the way rhythm is shown in Figurenotes, combined with the matching system, really appeals to those with autism spectrum disorder.

Mainstream Beginners - A great start for all beginners! Figurenotes provides the steps up to conventional notation, which is very intimidating at the beginning. Groups of varying abilities can play together and progress at their own pace. Reading won't be a barrier anymore!

Learning Disabilities - Originally designed for people with learning disabilities, Figurenotes works extremely well in making music more accessible, clearer and more engaging. Success, confidence, and increased motivation to practise mean that budding musicians flourish.
