We visited the Filmhouse last evening. I wasn't aware it had such an atmospheric Cafe/Restaurant where the food was absolutely gorgeous. It was a great place to relax and unwind before going to see your movie and every bit as fantastic to further relax and socialise after your movie.

We took a school group to the Filmhouse today to see Les Malheurs de Sophie. We couldn't have been made more welcome by the staff, and when one of our S1 pupils didn't feel well they did all they could to help her feel more comfortable.

We almost had the cinema to ourselves and the kids really enjoyed the film - which was free! Brought back very happy memories of my own school trips to see foreign films. Thanks so much for giving our pupils such a positive experience.

We'll definitely be back!

Saw The Founder yesterday, haven't been to the Filmhouse in years as I now live in London. Seats just as comfy as I remember them! The only thing I'd say is that the automatic doors to the foyer downstairs seem a bit temperamental; they didn't seem to be opening very easily without using the wheelchair button override - and even then didn't seem to stay open very long for my elderly parents. Maybe I was just getting confused and they're more straightforward than they seem

My wife and I became members a couple of years ago and it's been one the best things we've done.

We regularly watch films that don't get on general release as well as more mainstream movies.

The range of films is superb for a relatively small outfit, documentaries, festival releases, classic and more obscure re-releases.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, that includes those on the cafe too.

User

My second home in Edinburgh. The selection of films is excellent, and the staff is very friendly. The café is always quite cramped, but it's still a lovely place to meet.

User

Love the Filmhouse, always has a wide selection of movies throughout the year. staff are very friendly and the deco is very nice.

User

In Edinburgh for the festival we gravitated to this film buff venue. We weren't disappointed. Happened on a retro seeing of Babettes Feast, one of our favourites. At £3 with free tea and biscuits and discussion in a back room included, the Filmhouse more han lived up to our memories. Main dishes in the cafe are at a festival special price of £7 . Going back tomorrow to see Maudie.

User

I went with a friend last night to see Werner Herzog's remake of Murnau's Nosferatu. An excellent film and lovely to see it on the big screen. Filmhouse bar and staff as lovely as always. So lucky to have such a fabulous cinema in the city. And it's only one of many smaller cinemas here. Love Edinburgh. Love The Filmhouse.

User

Having now been in cinemas 1&2 I can say this is a really nice independent venue with good selection of main releases and one off showings. Cafe and bar is always busy.

User

Hands down, the best selection of films in Edinburgh. Love this place.

User

Had an amazing evening with my Son Cameron seeing Kevin Bacon and his lovely wife having a talk about there respective careers and QandA. Following on to watch the Woodsman an amazingly intense film with another QandA all in all a great night thank you Filmhouse.

User

Great venue with a great selection of films. As others have stated the cafe can be really busy. However it's worth it for the food and a great range of draught beers.

User

Great small cinema that I’ll definitely be coming back to. Nice atmosphere and showing some good films you can’t seem to get elsewhere.

User

Good sized screen (screen 1) and the seating is such that your view is unlikely to be blocked if a tall person sits in front of you.

User

A great venue with a great atmosphere. Went to see Maudie yesterday - such a great film and the Filmhouse is one of the few places locally where less commercial films such as Maudie can be enjoyed

User

Embarrassed to admit this was my 1st time at the Filmhouse! Reasonable price ticket, foyer, cafe/bar very nice, seating in the screens a bit tired looking but comfy enough. "3 Billboards " terrific!

User

I've always appreciated that Edinburgh is able to support a cinema like Filmhouse. One with interesting programming, reasonably priced tickets, food and beverages. I had been considering becoming a member

However on a recent visit to watch a children's film in the afternoon we encountered a weirdly aggressive usher who was angry and sarcastic with us us for not following some unknowable protocol for seating and ticket taking and then were surprised by the 2 alcohol ads (Glenfidddich and Southern Comfort, this one with semi naked men getting spray tanned) and a grown up Dior ad featuring Rihanna.

Maybe a place better experienced by grown ups or those who have a magical ability to divine unwritten, unsigned ways of finding your seat in living room sized art house cinemas.

The Manager at Filmhouse contacted me to discuss my recent experience. Inappropriate ad reels will not be shown before children's films. +1 stars for taking the time to get in touch.

User

Great that there is a cinema showing non-mainstream films, but they really need to rethink the food. The pork belly I was served was almost inedible - parts of it were like chewing shoe leather, the accompanying salad was wilted and the sweet potato mash was cold. Appreciate that a quick turnaround is needed as people need to go into screenings but I think there needs to be a refocus on simpler dishes that are easy to make quickly and well.

User

Five stars for the cinema, the lovely staff and the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Unfortunately, I'd give the food 2 stars at a push these days. You claim to provide vegan options but each time I visit (about once a month) I have a choice of baked potato or a bland and boring chickpea curry with a handful of tortilla chips chucked on the side. The staff are well informed and helpful about dietary needs but it seems that those in the kitchen are not interested in their vegetarian and vegan customers, with more and more meat dishes on the menu and limited options for vegetarian and vegan customers. I was once told that the vegetarian portobello mushroom burger could be made vegan...I got a mushroom on a bun and a small salad with no dressing :( Please put some thought into providing a menu that appeals to all of your customers, you do, after all, claim that vegetarians and vegans are well catered for.
