Good review this week on Trustpilot from John Palfrey, a new customer of ours, brought up an interesting point.
As you may know, we supply a shorter 8" (20cm) log size in both our hardwood or larch products (see the link at the foot).
These are very suited to smaller stoves or fireplaces (I know some regions of the country have smaller fireplaces for historical reasons).
... Well, as the new generation of stoves are being designed with exceptional burning efficiencies, it is possible to decrease your stove size and get the same heat output as before.
This might be something to consider for the future, it may be better to run a smaller stove "hotter", than to keep the air flow down on a larger one to avoid overheating your room. We know, that a hotter flue is beneficial (although I see some of the new stoves are burning so clean that the old advice about hot flues may become redundant).
It's certainly a consideration when you come to change your stove and please remember that our current advice is to upgrade your stove soon if it is over around 5 years old. The new regulations coming in are creating a new generation of super clean and efficient stoves. This is desirable to head off the pollution arguments being leveled at wood burning.
