Fish Annan Description
FishAnnan - everything you need for a days fishing on the River Annan, including fishing permits, river levels, catches, tackle shops, guides and where to stay.
The Annan can be split into three sections with the lower reaches extending from Annan to Dormont, the middle reaches extending from Dormont to the junction with the Kinnel and the upper reaches from here up to Moffat.
Essentially these boundaries are defined by the gradient and current speed in these sections with the upper and lower parts being fairly fast flowing and relatively shallow. The middle reaches is part of a large flood plain that has very little gradient and as a result the river meanders through the valley bottom. The flow is much slower than the other two sections with deep pools very common. As the river is not particulary large migratory fish can distribute themselves throughout very quickly given the right conditions.

More spring salmon action on Newbie beat today. Dean Bradley with a fine 34.5 inch salmon caught on the fly.
Dean’s was the 5th salmon landed on Newbie since last Tuesday. A 6th salmon was landed later today and another one lost.
Another cracking fresh fish from Newbie today. Rob Marshall used a Willie Gunn to tempt this fine specimen.

Grayling Event Cancellation
Once again the weather has conspired against us and ruined any chance of grayling fishing on Sunday.
The event is therefore cancelled.
Perfect opportunity for fly anglers either side of the border to brush up on their technique prior to the start of the 2019 season.

Only three more days of the 2018 salmon season remaining and it’s looking unlikely the river will drop back in before then.
Safe to say it has been a frustrating year conditions wise.
The river has been receiving plenty of water recently. Great news for the salmon and trout as they head to the spawning grounds.
Also good news for the fly boxes as time is better spent at the vice until water levels fall back 🙂

Free Grayling Workshops
Our first winter grayling tuition day takes place on Saturday 17th November. There are only one or two spaces left. Please confirm if you wish to attend by emailing director@annanfisheryboard.
A second event is being scheduled for Saturday 8th December. Full details will be added to our events section soon.

Fish Annan Angling Development
Thanks to support from the River Annan District Salmon Fishery Board and River Annan Trust we are delighted to announce that we are launching an angling development initiative.
Our aim is to encourage newcomers of all ages to angling and offer better opportunities for anglers to learn about the river. All tuition will be delivered by fully qualified instructors and full time fishery board staff.
... Many events will be completely free to attend although we encourage participants to make a small donation to the River Annan Trust which will support continued delivery of the initiative.
