NURTURING NATURE Ivy is one of my favourite plants. It's not the most striking, glamorous or colourful of plants but it's a survivor, growing in shady places, climbing up towards the light. It's a welcoming home to a whole range of wildlife, providing shelter and safety, helping to nurture new life. If you have Ivy growing up your wall or in your garden, don't cut her back too hard as insects love the flowers and it's a common place for birds to nest. My allotment Ivy was home to a beautifully crafted little nest last year and it was such a joy to sit and watch mum collect insects and listen to the chicks' hungry chirps on her return.

NARA VARSA AND THE GODDESS SRI Nara Varsa, Nepalese New Year, falls between April 11-15 and to mark this celebration, today I honoured the Hindu Goddess Sri. Some of you may recognise this image - it is a photograph of a painting of Sri Lakshmi, which hangs on the wall in one of my treatment rooms. Sri Lakshmi is thought of as a goddess of wealth and prosperity and in the Western world this often equates to material riches. But Sri has much to teach us about the little things... that are fundamental to achieving wealth of wellbeing, including the daily rituals that we can sometimes begin to think of as chores when we are distracted, busy or lacking in motivation. She reminds us that, whether it be a daily routine in caring for ourselves, our homes or our environment - our personal care routine, doing the dishes or washing the floors - when we honour these humble tasks we create a strong foundation on which to build something beautiful and personally prosperous.

"It suddenly came over Piglet that nobody had ever picked Eeyore a bunch of violets and how sad it was. So he hurried out, saying to himself, 'Eeyore, Violets,' in case he forgot, and he picked a large bunch and trotted along, smelling them, and feeling very happy" - A.A.Milne There is such wisdom in this quote. For those of you who feel your quietness and preference for seclusion sometimes inhibits your self expression, and that this expression is often misunderstood by others, Violet is for you. https://www.flourish.scot/blog/plant-wisd om-violet

BREASTPOTS NOT DESPOTS For thousands of years, ancient civilisations across the world honoured breasts in the form of these ceremonial pots. So, on days when you feel less than wonderful about your body, this post is to help you silence your inner critic, that voice cruelly fuelled by oppressive standards and fantasy figures of impossible bodies. That voice is no match for the wisdom of your ancestors. The ancients didn't care whether breasts were small or large, perky or pe...nduluous, both the same or different from each other. No matter what their size or shape, they were rightly respected, honoured, celebrated and worshipped in all their beautiful glory.

THE RIDE OF YOUR LIFE Do you remember what it's like to ride a bike? Perhaps you regularly cycle to work or perhaps the last time you cycled was when you were a child. No matter how long ago it was, we all remember what it's like to ride a bike. In order for us to move forward, we must use our mental focus, physical energy and faith in ourselves to propel us onward on our journey. When we are constantly moving, our balance seems to take care of itself. Sometimes our journey r...equires more effort than normal and we feel we are always pedalling uphill, but once we reach the top of that hill, we have the exhiliration of freewheeling down the other side. All the effort was worth those moments of freedom, to feel like we're flying. When we get tired of what the journey demands of us, it can be tempting to back pedal. While it's the same motion - going round and round - it doesn't move us forward and we seem to use all of our energy desperately trying to keep our balance just to stay in the same spot. While sometimes our journeys are an uphill struggle, it takes more effort to stay in the one place. Keep pedalling, keep moving forward. You are a Tour De Force.

Good morning! I hope you had a lovely weekend. After a busy Saturday with clients, this image is a good reflection of how I spent my Sunday, and I am a contented kitty. The approach with Reiki and animals is very different to Reiki and us humans. While we can voice our consent to receive Reiki energy, we need to be a little more intuitively receptive to an animal's way of communicating consent, and each animal is different, just as we are. A few years ago, in the early days ...of my Animal Reiki practice with a range of different species including dogs, cats, birds, donkeys, horses and a beautiful Highland cow called Lachlan whose red haired fringe was much to my envy, I discovered that one of my own companion animals had a very specific way of letting me know when Reiki was actually not what she wanted at the time. She also likes acupressure and other traditional medicine techniques and swings between them, depending on what she fancies. I found that she was communicating that she actually felt it impertinent and presumptuous for me to assume she wanted Reiki - and she was right. Just as we have a say in our own health, we must, as much as we are able to as caregivers, try to understand our animals and respect their rights to this too.

A WOMAN TRANSFORMED In my practice I feel incredibly privileged be a part of the healing journey for my clients and this was one of those weeks where I felt this deeply. I watched a beaming client physically skip out of my treatment room with such joy that I was fit to burst with the sheer happiness that I felt for her, for everything she had achieved. When she first came to me, she was in a dark place; full of lost hope, fear, anxiety and struggling to find herself again, t...he woman she once was who she desperately hoped was still there deep inside, despite it all. Over the course of a few weeks, we worked together to return to her what was rightly hers; her power, her joy, her confidence and a deep love and appreciation for herself. She placed her trust in me, and I placed mine in her, and she faithfully did the work I recommended between our appointments. And this week I watched that woman, a woman whole, a woman transformed, a woman returned, dance back into her life.

Spotted on my way to appointments in Battlefield today. It's a wee bit hazy but it's a little unassuming heart of moss growing and flourishing on the concrete, among shards of broken glass next to a bottle bank. Beauty is everywhere, and in the most surprising places. https://www.flourish.scot

Erynn details her chance encounter on a night train with a vulnerable young woman, 18 years old, living with epilepsy, who is forced to place her trust in strangers. While it is specific to epilepsy, it is a wonderful example of how an awareness of chronic and long term conditions, and the challenges the conditions bring, can help us see the world through another's eyes, providing a greater understanding of each other so that we can create a supportive and inclusive environment for everyone.

I may be adding more worms to an already huge can of them - I was never really down with this comparision of something difficult to deal with being compared to a can of worms as worms are lovely to my horticultural mind - but one of the things about Brexit that is not being talked about is the adverse effects the whole process is having on a large number of us. 20% of people said it caused them 'high levels of stress' and almost half the population feel powerless! No matter w...hat your viewpoint or political leanings are, these findings are highly significant and a real concern for both our individual and collective mental, physical and emotional health. Caring for ourselves, and each other, with positive coping mechanisms - spending time outdoors, returning to Nature, sharing time with friends, supportive therapies, meditation, eating well - may seem a little insignificant during these times of uncertainty but they are arguably more important than ever.
