Lovely walk from Balmuildy to Kirkie yesterday.17 miles in total there and back to mums. Saw green woodpecker, male and female buzzards just a canal width away, heron, so many robins and finches and a young Bewick swan.

As part of my SQA qualifications my history and investigation paper was about The history of The Forth & Clyde Canal. The degeneration and regeneration too. I managed to get in touch with Mr Ian Scott who does the history pieces in The Falkirk Herald. He helped the 3 of us who were doing the same thing immensely by having a slideshow on what the canal used to look like when it transported people from the union canal where the passengers got off and a horse & cart took them to The union Inn (Aunty Katie's) for lunch and by the time the barge came down the 12 lock gates Into the forth & Clyde they had finished lunch and boarded the barge to make its way along the canal at lock 16. Fantastic history the canal has and so happy the waters clean. Plenty of wildlife and fish plus the towpath full of people walking, jogging, cycling, fishing etc.. it's so nice to see it this way compared to what it was like in the 70s- 80s when I was young. Long may it continue. Fantastic attractions from moored boats to the wheel and Kelpies. I love it .P.S I passed my exam :-)

It's a wonderful place to stroll Ali g and take in all the beautiful nature on our door step. U can stop for refreshments if needed also at the stables bar. Pity about the mess on the bridge at Kirky marina and folk leaving dog poo bags on ground as no bin. The cyclist do need to slow down tho.

Great place for a flat off road pedal for whole family , couple of road crossings to navigate , but very rare over all .

Done this and the union canal a few times . Absolutely fantastic to be able to cycle between Scotland's two largest cities . A must to do for keen cyclists , even if done through several visits

I use this path on a daily basis. I would give it a higher rating if more users followed the code of conduct. There are numerous signs stating it is part of the national cycle network and too many cyclists think it is for their exclusive use, treat it more like a racetrack, with very little use of bells and no heed of dismount signs.

Great place to walk the dog but far too many cyclists going far too fast!!

Really disappointed with the state of bowling basin, doesn’t look like boats are traveling through the canal.
