About Frances Young - Sports & Massage Therapy

What is Sports Therapy?

Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability. Whether you have an injury acquired from your chosen sport or merely aches and pains from a long week at work, sports therapy is the answer! Why wait for a problem to occur? Sports therapy also focuses on injury prevention and corrective movement techniques to ensure you are always at your best physically.

About Frances…

Frances graduated from Teesside University with a first class honors in Sports Therapy in 2015. While at university, she completed a work placement with Middlesbrough Rugby Team and the universitys’ mens football team alongside regularly working within the university injury clinic dealing with injuries of all types. She is fully qualified in first aid and the application of kinesio taping level 1. Frances regularly attended seminars given by Middlesbrough Football Club medical team as well as several other experts in the field such as Peter Brukner and Karim Kahn where she gained valuable and upto date techniques. With four years of experience, Frances is qualified in providing a professional and extensive treatment in order to get you back to full health.

What to expect …

At your first appointment, Frances will perform an initial assessment, which will include a detailed questionnaire on the history of your injury and any relevant medical history. A physical assessment will then be undertaken to determine the root of the problem and any underlying causes. You may be asked to take off outer layers of clothing to allow for the injury to be assessed fully and therefore it would be helpful to bring along shorts and a training bra for the ladies. From this, she will provide a detailed and personal treatment plan, which will focus on restoring you back to full fitness and aim to alleviate the dysfunction in order to avoid a recurring injury. Treatment and advice will be available for the duration of your injury concentrating on the early stages right through to regaining strength within the later stages. Injury assessment and treatment appointments will last 1 hour with any future appointments lasting 30-40 minutes at a discounted rate.

If you merely have sore muscles and are just looking for a sports massage then some stages mentioned above will be missed as there if not a specific injury to address. Massage appointment times vary depending on severity but usually last from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
