About Galloway Fisheries Trust

A conservation charity (SCO20751) working to protect native fish, freshwater habitats and water quality across Galloway river catchments (Luce, Bladnoch, Cree, Fleet, Dee, Urr, & Border Esk) and local lochs.

Galloway Fisheries Trust Description

This Facebook page will provide regular updates on our work programmes across local fresh waters. These could include scientific monitoring of fish populations, habitat enhancement projects, control of non-native invasive species, water quality monitoring, fish barrier easing and removal, education projects, volunteer training, important consultations and research programmes.

The Galloway Fisheries Trust works to restore and maintain aquatic biodiversity, particularly native fish species, across the waters of Galloway by practical, responsible and sustainable approaches to land, water and fishery management, based on sound science, for the benefit of the community as a whole. This is achieved by undertaking practical works, education initiatives, focused research projects, providing advice and delivering key services to local waters and the wider community.

The Galloway Fisheries Trust is an environmental charity which was set up in 1988 by four local District Salmon Fisheries Boards in the South West of Scotland with common problems and aims. Since then the Trust has expanded and now working across most of Dumfries and Galloway's rivers (Luce, Bladnoch, Cree, Fleet, Dee, Urr and Border Esk) and still waters.
