What a lovely place. So much to see and do. Scenic drives ... great cafe..lovely walks...great bird hides...wish we didn't live 7 hours away! Had a great day out here whilst on holiday...unfortunately we didn't get to do the dark skies
We go into the Galloway Forest Park to wild camp in our motor home. It's a nice setting for us as we like the reasonable peace and quiet we get there. You can see wild goats and deer, and the nights are very dark because of the lack of light pollution. There is also a lot of trails for bicycles, and hikers, with some really nice sight seeing. Go see for yourself.:-)
We walked some of the walks available from Kirroughtree visitor centre. Could be improved with longer paths available for buggies/wheelchairs as we love walking but could not get very far with our buggy. After swapping out for baby-carrier, we managed 2 of the available easy and moderate walks (orange, purple). Beautiful forest!
Scenery, open spaces, clear paths, good visitor centres. Good weather always makes a difference but in the sun it is quite spectacular. Note, car park £3 per day.
Fantastic range of activities and scenery within the park. Very relaxing short walks, strenuous hill walks and plenty of mountain bike trails. Excellent dark sky events and really loved the red deer range, kite feeding station and wild goats.
Amazing part of the scotland and a must see for any visitors. Nature and scenery spectacular and great for walking, cycling and camping.
beautiful park in a quiet area of the country. Its also a dark park with star gazing classes for anyone with the bug.
Wonderful place to walk and cycle. You could get lost for days and days. Get a good OS map though. Dark Sky park designated as well. Stars at night are breath taking, really fresh and vibrant. Great place for holidays such as B&B , cottages etc. Some great lochs for fishing, and swimming if you dare. An 'away from it all' type of place. Been there for year after year, renting a cottage or at a B&B for a few days. Thoroughly recommend it.
Very scenic with good hill walking (once you get pass the forestry!) All the visitor centres seem to be coffee shops/cafes which is useful.
