Went today 17th March for my birthday with my husband. We've both had Argentinian steak before so we had high expectations. We were not disappointed. We ordered chatuebriand.

As we already knew, not steak knive in sight nor required, cooked to medium perfection, which is our taste.

Service very good, we were both looked after very well indeed, thank you

Visited yesterday, 15th June for my husband, Tom's birthday. After hearing so many good reviews, we had high expectations. We were not disappointed. We ordered chataubriand.

and not a steak knive in sight nor required, cooked to medium perfection, which is our taste. Cheesecake was fabby and the cable and Happy Birthday in chocolate a lovely bonus.

Service very good and we were both looked after very well indeed, thank you.

User

This place is awesome. Staff are very friendly (they were to us). Our hostess brought out the cuts of meat and explained what they were.

The steaks themselves were beautifully cooked, and while one day I will attempt a 500g fillet, the 300g with sauce, chips and veg, along with a very tasty sausage starter, left me comfortably full.

Expensive, but worth it for good quality steak.

User

Myself and my partner visited here lasnight after reading great reviews and both being steak lovers!

Excellent food and wonderful service from start to finish, can not recommend this place enough!

Thank you for a fab evening!

User

My husband and myself had a very pleasant early dinner on Saturday. He chose the 400g filet steak, whilst I had the risotto. Both dishes were excellent. The service was very good and the cocktails very enjoyable. Beautiful surroundings, excellent service and great food.

My family & I recently visited Gaucho Edinburgh @ St Andrews square [02/01/18] to celebrate my wife's 31st birthday (table of 6) after hearing loads of positive feedback from our friends, we weren't disappointed.

From the outset, the customer service was exceptional; the staff were friendly and polite when I called to reserve a table, as was the maitre dee who greeted us upon arrival.

With a short 2 minute wait at the bar we were welcomed down stairs to our table swiftly followed by an introduction to our waitress [unfortunately didn't catch her name] however she spoke with a pleasant Italian/European accent and thoroughly explained the menu / choice of meat cuts after taking our aperitif & wine order - my wife opted for the "silly rabbit" whilst the family and I opted for the Malbec which was fantastic!

Whilst we waited for our main course the waitress served fresh sour dough bread & mini cheese rolls with a spicy chimichuri dipping sauce. Most of the table opted for steak (300-400g) and an array of accompanying sides whilst the fussy eater of the family went with the burger; all of the dishes were served promptly and everyone cleared their plate before having a "wee look" at the deserts menu

My wife was treated to a complimentary "silly rabbit" cocktail platter with Birthday wishes inscribed in chocolate and accompanying fresh fruit whilst I had the cheese cake and others had the rice pudding.

Overall a wonderful evening set within a fantastic venue, we will/would recommend Gaucho's Edinburgh for any occasion.

Well done to the restaurant manager & team for making our special occasion a memorable one, we'll certainly be back!

Best regards,

Mr K McGuigan

I have eaten in most steak restraunts and Gaucho is by far the best we have ever been to.

The service was amazing me and my fiance were very impressed with our server(never got her name but tall blonde scottish girl) from bring out the differnt cuts of beef to help us make our mind up. She made the experiance amazing and certainly helped us choose the right cut and was so tender and very tasty!

We will definately be back for sure!! Thanks again.

User

Got taken here for my Birthday and couldnt of asked for a better evening. The staff were really nice the food was excellent. Everything was served on time and the staff went beyond to make sure you had a good meal.

They even sang happy birthday and gave me chocolate truffles with happy birthday on the plate written in chocolate.

Will definitely be back. 10/10 service!

User

Gaucho was one of my favourite places to eat while I lived in London. I was delighted when one finally opened in Edinburgh. We have been twice now. Once in the evening and once in the afternoon with a couple of toddlers happy to raise hell. On both occasions the service has been fantastic.

Would strongly recommend the Chateaubriand 700g between two people. It was absolutely stunning.

User

Excellent service from the minute we were greeted at the door. Enjoyed a cocktail at the bar before heading downstairs to eat. Having eaten at Gaucho before in London we knew what the format was like and Edinburgh was no different.....very enjoyable. Great service and delicious steaks plus a very fine red wine. We will go back.

User

Amazing food with amazing service. I have been twice now in a month!!

The first time we went I had asked for a cocktail and they were delayed in bringing it to me as the glass had smashed by mistake. I was totally fine with it and we enjoyed our meal. To our surprise when the bill came they have removed the price of the cocktail, my partners drink and our side of vegetables.

Tonight we went again and ordered, I had sirloin and my boyfriend had rump. The rump came out and looked lovely, but my boyfriend wasn’t enjoying it as it was slightly chewy and not what he was used to. I briefly mentioned to the lovely server and she took the steak away, brought out a brand new fresh steak with more fresh sides (that had already been finished). The manager came over to make sure we were enjoying it which was so lovely. No complaints whatsoever and was impressed with the service.. when the bill came again they had removed our juices and side of macaroni off of the menu! Mentioned to the girl that we didn’t expect it and she didn’t need to do that, but she insisted.

100% will be back here such a lovely place, lovely staff and top customer service!

I’d go as far to say one of the best steaks I’ve ever had.

Thanks Gaucho, you have created 2 fans!

User

We really enjoyed our food and wine. Not giving 5*. Reason being, arrived 10 minutes before table booked and told couldn’t be seated so would we like to order a drink. Eventually we ordered drinks but as by this time our table should have been free we were getting impatient. 15 minutes later we asked when our table would be ready. ‘Oh you want to eat now? Our computer is broken so don’t know if table free but just go downstairs’ . Then we entered the restaurant and were given menus. If you don’t have 20/20 vision take a torch!

However, when it came to food and service, we cannot fault. Shared seafood starter. Salmon carpaccio, tuna ceviche and soft shell crab. Delicious but could have been a tad more generous!

Mains. Wow. 300gm fillet steak fabulous but too much, order 225. Ribeye delicious, any fat just melts. Sides, chips, salad and salsa excellent but 1 portion of chips ok for 2 and likewise with salsa.

Chose an Argentine Malbec with was excellent, much better than any you will buy in Tesco.

Not a cheap night out but despite first impressions was super.

User

Ordered a 400g Rump Medium Rare which came cooked perfectly.

Quiet to begin with when we arrived at 7PM but atmosphere picked up after half an hour.

Only criticism was once busy and nearing the end of the meal, we had to wait some time for desert and the bill.

WOULD RECOMMEND

User

Nice fit out to the restaurant which is very new and the food was good as it normally is at Gaucho... they were a bit short staffed as we had a drink at the bar before and there was nobody serving and a girl running up from downstairs every so often... it was not even busy at the time either, for a Friday lunchtime it was a bit quiet, but we had a very enjoyable meal and the service was good at the table.

User

Food was lovely however considering there were only 5 tables in the service was very slow. We had to ask for water twice, had to ask for them to take our order. The chimmichuri came with the bread before our mains and we were not given steak knives so we were struggling to cut our steaks. £120 for 2 steaks, a fish pie and a bottle of wine seems a bit steep and for a quiet Tuesday we expected better service. Beautiful setting unfortunately the service did not live up to the same standards.

User

After reading the reviews we were excited about trying here, as part of overnight for my Christmas my other half took me here! The service was first class, the bread you get served is amazing however we were really disappointed with the steak.. very bland, over cooked & for the price you pay, i could have cooked a better steak myself for less than a quarter of the £100 bill!! i know we won’t be back!

User

Order 2 Rump Steaks - Medium Rare

One came charcoaled to within an inch

The other came well done

Staff asked if all ok we explained what we ordered

Food was swiftly removed and fresh meals prepared and served.

Problem now they sent out one rump and one rib eye I queried that mines wasn’t rump and was promptly told that it was rump but just cut differently -

Unhappy at the thought of waiting again I decided to keep what was served - meat was poorly seasoned and not cooked to a med-rare as ordered

Wine selection was great and sommelier was very informative also offered a free wine tasting session to assist with the choosing of our second bottle which was first class.

Restaurant is beautifully decorated very plush and luxurious

Will probably give it a second go later this year however Kylo rates much higher

User

Gaucho’s should refrain from franchises as it’s ruining there name. Booked for 9:15pm arrived on time to be told there was a 45min delay and we would hopefully be seated by 10pm. There has been no problems in the kitchen just overbooked the restaurant and allowed to many walk ins. The most unprofessional experience I’ve ever had in a supposed high class restaurant. Will be sticking to swallow st Piccadilly in future. If you fancy a steak in Edinburgh steer clear of here.

User

Couldn't get 2 drinks right. After waiting for over 20 mins. Only 2 people in the place we sat outside. Made me wonder why place was dead and every other bar etc was busy.. Because staff are useless. Very very disappointed. Bit of training needed.
