Stomp, stomp, stomp Listen in.........Dippy is here, but how did he get here?
In this podcast @naturalhistorymuseum Head of Conservation Lorraine Cornish explains just how you go about transporting a 292 bone dinosaur cast around the country, how it is pieced together and the challenges that brings. While Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum manager Dr Neil Ballantyne touches on why Kelvingrove was chosen as the only Scottish venue on the tour and how you can see the UK’s most... famous dinosaur.

ONE WEEK TO GO until Leonardo da Vinci: A Life in Drawing opens at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum. Beyond the 20 or so surviving paintings by Leonardo, the artist's drawings are the main source of our knowledge of this extraordinary Renaissance man and his many activities.
Through drawing, Leonardo attempted to record and understand the world around him. It is widely known that he believed an image could convey knowledge more accurately and concisely than any words. Leonardo da Vinci: A Life on Drawing is on from 1 February - 6 May 2019 in partnership with Royal Collection Trust

The excitement is building as we prepare for Dippy to join us at Kelvingrove. In preparation for his arrival, the Centre Hall and Scottish Wildlife Gallery are currently closed to the public to allow Dippy to go on display. They will remain shut until 22nd of January. The rest of the museum is accessible as normal. Sorry for any inconvenience #DippyOnTour #1weektogo https://bit.ly/2R2PvOQ

There's still time to book a place at the next CPD session at GoMA, on the topic of Critical Studies in Contemporary Art!
In this session at the Gallery of Modern Art we aim to: • Provide teachers with an insight into current and forthcoming exhibitions at GoMA; • Support the teaching of critical studies in contemporary art;... • Provide a platform for the sharing of ideas and resources.
The session will include an opportunity to engage with the following exhibitions: • 'Taste', which explores changing attitudes towards contemporary art; • 'Queer Timɘs School Prints', which addresses current LGBTQI+ issues in education. Find out how you can borrow these prints for use in school; • ‘Domestic Bliss’, an upcoming show which looks at the intersection between contemporary design and the domestic setting.
Participants will also take part in practical activities such as comparing and contrasting artworks and developing a notebook of terminology useful for critical studies.
Glasgow Teachers can book via CPD manager using the code CF11. Non Glasgow School can contact our schools booking hub on 0141 2769 505 or email museums.schoolbookings@glasgowlife.o rg.uk

... Our blog contains posts by Glasgow Museums’ curatorial team highlighting examples of the links between our collections and slavery.
Erin Algeo is an American student who recently studied at Glasgow University. During her time with us Erin has been researching collections within the Mitchell Library, specifically 18th century Customs & Excise Books for Imports and Exports, looking for items revealing Glasgow’s links to slavery.
