Have you visited our Planetarium? This quote from a visitor made us absolutely delighted. We have lots on, if you haven't visited yet, come and see! http://socsi.in/OggwJ

We've decided to bend the rules on our usual Sci-Fi Sunday programme to ensure that the young ones get the chance to be inspired just as much as we were, by Hidden Figures.
Hidden Figures is based on the incredible story of Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, three of NASA's "human computers" who served as the brains behind the flight of John Glenn, the first American to orbit the planet.
To celebrate Black History Month, join us as one of our expert astrono...mers gives you a whistlestop tour of the cosmos, before settling down to enjoy Hidden Figures in our fulldome digital Planetarium.
Ages 8+, under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.

Anyone going for a walk this weekend?
The average moderately active person takes around 7,500 step/day. If you maintain that daily average and live until 80 years of age, you’ll have walked about 216,262,500 steps in your lifetime.
Doing the maths, the average person with the average stride living until 80 will walk a distance of around 110,000 miles.
... Which is the equivalent of walking about 5 times around the Earth, right on the equator. Boom.

We had some great guests this morning with Greater Glasgow Police Division popping down before we opened to have a go on our BodyWorks exhibits. We're here all day and all weekend with Festival 2018 and Glasgow2018 helping you explore and understand everything that goes on inside your body.
What's your favourite BodyWorks exhibit?

Who has watched Mercury 13? It's a fantastic documentary about a group of amazing women in aviation. We're absolutely delighted to be welcoming Wally Funk, one of the first women to pass the 'women in space' programme back in the 60s to speak as part of our David Elder lecture series. This'll be a great evening, with some fascinating storytelling.
Take a look in a bit more detail, along with the full lecture series programme on our site, and let us know what you think of the documentary too...

We are delighted to announce we have received funding of £2.9 million that will revolutionise GSC! As well as improvements to existing facilities and exhibition spaces and the development of our community based learning programme, the funding will transform the exterior of the Centre by the Clyde.
Awarded through the Inspiring Science Fund – a partnership between the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) and the Wellcome Trust – it is the biggest single... investment in GSC since we opened in 2001.
The money will fund the Connect project that will deliver a range of new interactions and experiences to make GSC more attractive and accessible to a wider and more diverse audience and aims to cement GSC in the fabric of Glasgow as a community hub.
As a visitor, the first thing you will notice is the inclusion of a Changing Places toilet that give visitors access to extra equipment and space to allow them to use the toilets safely and comfortably.
You can read more about the Connect project on our website https://www.glasgowsciencecentre.org/supp ort-us/connect

If you're visiting us from today please make sure to check out our new Skyscanner exhibits on floor 2. We've worked with them to show you the digital technology used in large companies like this.
The multitasking arcade-style game is called Balancing Servers and the challenge is to manage a group of computer servers as efficiently as you can. The two information touchscreens, called Search Simplified, let you go behind the scenes at Skyscanner.
Tell us all about your experience afterwards! ✈️

first time we had been. 2 Adults. enjoyed the centre. but the laughter and screams of kids enjoying themselves was fantastic. in the cafe we had a long wait which was worth it to eat the tasty food and the staff were very helpful.

User

We visited yesterday with our 7 year old grandson an were very impressed with everything it had too offer . And it was affordable considering we could have spent the whole day there . Very educational for all ages we were luckyto be there when the old computers an consoles were there and gran had lots of fun playing space raiders . Would definately recommend .

Visited today with my 7 year old,5 year old and 9 week old. we spent our first half exploring the first floor before deciding to go on the tower. was our first time ever being on it was so was super excited. my friend took my two oldest children up with herself and her 2 daughter's as only so many people can go in the lift at once. they got to the top to see the views. I got in the lift with one of the employees a young man called stephen and another visitor. just before we approached the top the lift stopped all of a sudden and alarms started going off..we were trapped. I suffer from bad anxiety so being that high up in a very confined space and the wind shaking the lift I tried my best not to panic but unfortunately it just wasn't possible. while holding my 9 week old ( prams are not allowed up to the top) I had a full panic attack. my attacks usually last pretty long but Stephen the employee and the rest of the staff who had an amazing communication system going with regular updates, making sure we were okay, and also Callum another staff member who was with my friend and children at the top of the tower who kept the children calm asking them to make jokes ect to make sure the don't worry which they didn't at all because of Callum. once I got to the bottom we were greeted by the manager ( can't mind his name everything was pretty blurred at this point) but again was very attentive and apologetic ( he had nothing to be sorry for) he walked with me making sure I was okay until I reached a very lovely lady called shakira who again was very attentive humble and apologetic to us all ( again she had nothing to be sorry for). really thing that these members of staff should get some reward for their hard work today to make us safe and making sure we were okay what a team effort they have and should be very proud of themself. thank you everyone for your help today ps just because I got stuck doesn't mean u will so please don't think it it's a big machine and these things can happen.

User

I would highly recommend The Pure Random Science Show, it was a fantastic experience for kids and adults (included in ticket price). I found the Space Explorers show in the planetarium a bit disappointing as it started late and felt the staff were then rushing to fit everything in as a result. We also saw A Beautiful Planet 3D in the Imax which was a hit with everyone. Overall a brilliant day for all the family.

User

I went there when it first opened and was amazed then, it still doesn't disappoint. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I was concerned that there may not be enough to amuse and occupy a nearly two year old but she had a fantastic time and tried everything she could reach, it's really well worth a visit it's unique! There are simple easily followed descriptions of each "experiment". Highly recommend

User

I visited on the 11th April during the easter holidays with my 2 daughter's aged 7 and 3, we arrived at 10am and had the place virtually to ourselves for the 1st hour! Staff extremely helpful and friendly, we booked in for the 11.20 planetarium space show which both of my girls loved! The highlights for me were the interactive exhibits, sand, water area and as my daughter would call it 'hamster wheel', we also visited the cafe which was superb, food was delicious and service excellent! A fantastic family day out, you really could spend the whole day, I also felt it was very generous on seating areas and toilet facilities, a very well thought out layout with families in mind! Can't wait to visit again in the summer!

User

Has to be one of the best indoor venues for kids and Adults. Even when it’s really busy ( like it was when we were there , Easter Monday) you never have to wait more than a minute or two if at all to do anything

User

First visit for me and my daughter. My 9 year old grandson had visited with his school earlier in the year and couldn't wait to take us there. Can honestly say there are many things of interest for all ages and you could easily spend a whole day there. A bit expensive for entry though. Also perhaps payment for shows at planitarium should be taken at point of entry to it and not at front desk.

User

Came today for the Autism hour. Amazing. So relaxed and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Was good to see the boy I was with enjoying exploring and trying things out without getting stressed about other people. Will deffo be back.

User

Amazing place to spend a whole day with the kids, young or old. Important and useful information, lovely and helpful staff, they are really open and friendly, and eager to please. The science displayed is really up to date. Great place to learn! Good job, guys!

User

Absolutely love the science centre and planetarium so much to do for all ages, food in the cafe is great too and reasonably priced. Will definitely be back loads!

User

A great day spent in the science centre with my 10 year old. All of the experiments worked and the staff were really knowledgeable and helpful too. We watched the cosmic reaction with the ping pong balls which was really cool to see. Also visited the planetarium for one of the shows. The guy was excellent who explained everything. Well worth the money. Lunch in the cafe was good too!

User

What a fantastic place. We spent about 5 hours there and could have been there for much longer. Our children love it and the staff are excellent with our little girl who has cerebral palsy, and therefore needs extra help. My only problem was with the able bodied people hogging the lift which is signed as priority for those with mobility issues and pushchairs. Had it not been for them we would have seen much more. My daughter cannot use the stairs and we cannot carry her. However we did not let this spoil our real enjoyment of the Centre.

User

Visited the centre today and it was good

There was enough to see and do. The only thing that let it down was the admission and parking price...could do with learning a lesson from other museums etc with donation rather than set price don't think I would rush back when there are more places to visit over the summer holiday that don't eat into family budget.

User

The Centre is brilliant with something for all ages. I haven’t given it 5 stars due to the ticket service which was not good. There is insufficient information available for the different tickets, especially the passport. This then needs explained to everyone buying tickets, which makes for a long wait in the queue. We decided on buying the passport and then had to wait in the queue twice, the second time to get the cards. It is also not clear how to validate the parking ticket so you get charged the lesser amount. A separate leaflet would have been helpful giving details of the mechanics of the whole thing.

Also we bought tickets for a show described as suitable for “under sevens”. I was expecting some kind of light show with stars and planets small children would enjoy. Five minutes in and we had to leave and I do feel it was more for seven and over.

However we did buy the passport, as we fully intend going back and it was very impressive that they have been able to cater for so many different age groups.

User

My kids absolutely love the science centre, so much so that they got a passport for christmas. We can easily spend a full day there.

The only reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is the planetarium. You can purchase tickets on arrival however seats are not reserved, so if you are the last family in, you may find you all need to sit apart. Not ideal. Seat reservation, even if it's staff choosing to make best use of the seats, but being able to keep families together, would be better.

User

Just been to a Planetarium Lates show, which was brilliant. Does seem a shame that from the moment the show finished we were told constantly by staff that we had to leave the area and go downstairs as another show was due to start. No time to browse the solar system exhibit which seems a shame, particularly for kids, given that the talk was inspiring and leaves you wanting to learn more. My son was really into the exhibit as were a few other families but in the space of 5 minutes we were asked to leave about 4 times. Seems a bit full on quite frankly. Is there a reason why people, having paid for the show, need to be ushered out quite so quickly?

User

Good day out for all the family, kids really enjoyed it, staff were v friendly. Only downside was foreign tourists who don’t supervise their kids. My kids got pushed out the way and things grabbed off them a few times. Each time no parents about.

User

Really disappointed with the Floyd WYWH show at the planeterium, wasn't quite sure what to expect in terms of the generated images, but it all seemed very dated with only a few highlights. No real connection with the music in terms of synchronicity or content. Wouldn't go back for any of the other shows.

User

Good day out for all the family, kids really enjoyed it, staff were v friendly. Only downside was foreign tourists who don’t supervise their kids. My kids got pushed out the way and things grabbed off them a few times. Each time no parents about.

Really disappointed with the Floyd WYWH show at the planeterium, wasn't quite sure what to expect in terms of the generated images, but it all seemed very dated with only a few highlights. No real connection with the music in terms of synchronicity or content. Wouldn't go back for any of the other shows.
