No justice whatsoever
Lost trust and faith on the law

The man with an orange for a head has been here. A lot of under researched reviews here imo. It is possible for a non law society person to be paid fees and parking, it doesn't happen very often because one must litigate the arse out of the system to achieve it. But it can be done!

More importantly the traditional marble look is the perfect hideaway for the man with an orange for a head. In this building he can "hide in plain sight" since here gowns and far out hats are a way of life! Whilst it is true that the legal profession are very attached to their hats. What they don't know is that nearly two hundred years of complacency with regard to the specifics of hat law; has left them in the unfortunate position here in the twenty-first century where none of them are equipped (with respect to hats) to fight even the most tame of legal battles.

One day the man with an orange for a head shall reveal himself and all hell is going to break loose for those who are wearing ridiculous hats! The police wear reasonably good hats, but if you want to be in the clear stay away from the hats. Unless you really know what you are doing. Judges, barristers and even for that matter sheriffs wear ridiculous hats, don't steal one of these unless you are wanting to send a magical message to the universe to hit you bluntly in the face with "The law according to the deity known as Sod!".

Don't even begin to get me started on jk bloody rowling even the "sherrifs" are more magically inclined than the "characters" in that "book"...

We all know that the judiciary and all that surrounds it is a big money-making operation for everyone involved professionally. Yet with all of the revenue within this system the State is still penny-pinching on witness expenses. Absolutely no parking is provided at the court, nor is parking paid for by the Crown. In the city centre this is a scandal, since paid parking costs a small fortune. Yet nothing is reimbursed other than meagre subsistence for food. If you're an ordinary member of the public on your day off, on benefits or otherwise attending outside your work days, you get paid nothing for your time. Yet some court staff are paid hundreds of pounds per hour, with the police and others attracting overtime and paid time off. Is it any wonder fewer and fewer members of the public are willing to come forward and act as prosecution witnesses when the system doesn't even cover basic expenses and facilities like parking and parking charges? Add to this the usual routine of keeping witnesses waiting in suspense, for hours or sometimes for days on end, only for the case to be adjourned til months ahead. In any other industry the judicial system would have attracted the public criticism, protest and revolt it deserves.

Screens are provided for witnesses but then no protection anywhere else in the court, the defendant was sat 15ft away from the victim in the cafe! Staring right at us, he now knows what we look like :))) idiots, he could've just walk over and done anything, there's no security in the cafe!!!! This shouldn't be allowed, if they provide screens in the court, why is he allowed to just walk in here as if he's done nothing wrong!

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

No concept of scheduling. Have to wait all day for five minute hearing.

Staff were very helpful, one or two going out of their way to direct me to the right place. There are 25 courts in the building. At the Crime Office upstairs, I was able to look at but not copy a list of the named accused to appear in the courts that day. Two on the list in Court 8 were women. So i decided to attend that court.
The police officer on duty in Court 8, was extremely pleasant and helpful.
As for a while only he and I were in the room, I said to him: ' a bit like a Church here, isn't it?'
He nodded happily: "Yes, quiet and peaceful'.
Such constables now sit in court to maintain law and order. He sits quietly without drawing attention to himself.
Several times when i was seeking to enter a court room The 'Court in Sessions' light was switched on, to deter the public from entering the room so that discussions could take place inside, even if there were only two officials in the room and their space is quite distant from the public sector.
Court officials are apparently accustomed to talking very softly if outsiders are present, but talk in normal tones when they are alone, sometimes laughing.
The defence counsel entered at one point and seemed only then to be familiarising himself with the case, quickly skimming notes that he had picked up. Perhaps he was a duty solicitor, but the prosecutor seemed to be well prepared.
So far as i could determine there was no press table, nor any reporter present and the only members of the public were the mother of the accused - an ethnic teenager - and me. The mother's tears ran silently down her cheeks during the proceedings. She knew very little English but her daughter had been born in Scotland (so she told me later) and seemed fairly confident.
Historically court proceedings have been a source of entertainment to the public and if neither press nor public is present in courts today, one might wonder why this is so and is it a good thing.
There were 15 people on the jury instead of 12. The police officer had told me this beforehand and explained that jury members often had to cancel their appearance at the last minute and to avoid having to postpone the trial, three extra jurors were available to step in as replacements if required. The jurors sat in seats visibly numbered 1-15. Seven were female and eight male. Only one, a male, looked under 30.
Proceedings were suspended for refreshment breaks and lunch and i unfortunately had to leave so that i did not know the outcome of the assault charge brought against the girl.

Busy with very poor facilities for witnesses. Having to have lunch in same cafeteria as the accused is nerve racking and potentially dangerous. Separate facilties would be good.
