Glencanisp Estate and Outdoor Activities is primarily a conservation body charged with the responsibility to carry out the land management objectives of the Assynt Foundation.
The majority of our work revolves around deer management. Red deer are the predominant species that make there home on the estate and are also the species that impact upon it the most on a day to day basis.

It is our job to manage the herd in such away that the population does not negatively impact the land which sustains it, to do this we undertake an annual culling program which over the next 20 years will reduce the overall number of deer and allow scrub and trees to return to the valley providing food and shelter to those that remain. once this balance is achieved the cull will be undertaken on information generated from annual counts and habitat monitoring to ensure the population remains stable and within the lands ability to support it.

In managing the land for the deer all the other species will fall into place. with more shrubs and trees there will be more song birds and small mammals and ware there is prey there is predators such as the buzzard, eagle and goshawk.
