One star for the beautiful setting but not worth the 20 minutes filling out paperwork and listening to all the rules and regulations! Surcharges for booking in before 12 and for only staying one night, then being told that it was our fault for them giving someone else our pitch while we went for dinner! Most expensive site I've come across in Scotland but certainly not worth the money for what is a very mediocre facility!

Camping amongst the trees, waking up to spectacular views (forests, mountains and the lake). Excellent access to water sports on the lake and access to the Cairngorm national park is just the other side of the road. On site facilities were spotless and the showers have constant hot water.

Really disappointed in this campsite. Facilities are good but nothing special. The ground for pitching tents is boggy and so many stones. Signs state there is to be 6 meters between the tents and caravans/motor homes, however, we return to find a party of 3 tents had decided to almost pitch their tents in our tent. On both nights we stayed the noise levels were unacceptable beyond 11pm, with adults shouting. The signs clearly state noise should be kept at a minimum after 10pm. Not great when you are camping with young children. Not worth the £69.68 to pitch a tent for 2 adults and 2 small children!! Might be an idea for the staff to actually inspect the site and ensure people are adhering to the rules, which are actually just common sense.

If faulty towers did campsites... We had a large group booked in here. The wardens were rude, jobsworths. Didn't let one of our group in who then had to sleep in the car park across the road. Visitors are charged, awnings are charged extra, bug nets are charged extra, extra cars are extra. Total rip off of what used to be a great place. Ground is stony and unsuitable for camping. We'd have perhaps felt better about our stay if the staff weren't so difficult - and beware the entrance closes at exactly 10 and doesn't open till 8. Will never return under current management.

If I could give this minus stars I would. We were turned away from the site because our converted VW camper didn't meet the requirements of Camping in the Forest. This was handled very badly by the member of staff and really put a dampner on what had so far been an excellent trip. The warden was rude, patronising and seemed to take great satisfaction in turning us away. We had spent some time at Rothiemurchus campsite just down the road and thought we'd give somewhere else a try and have one or two more nights in the Cairngorms. The attitude we encountered left a bitter taste in the mouth about the whole trip. We came to escape civilisation and the hassles of everyday life for a bit and instead we were greeted with corporate nonsense, rudeness and a complete lack of any kind of customer-service savvy. We were so shocked at what we encountered we ended up cutting our Cairngorms excursion short. Avoid like the plague.

Time great. Beautiful pla e to camp. Toilets showers always spotless. Allowdogs which is great as I have GSD, morning walks on beach amazing. Highly recommend and go back to stay.

Great location and have been going here for years however always been a bit pricey. Now it's £100 for three nights in a tent!!! Disappointing. Won't be going back at these prices.

User

Quiet, with a great location very close to the cairngorms mountain railway. Facilities good, bar and shop next to site. Riverman rod plays in the bar on a Saturday night and encourages people to join in, great entertainment

The site is great, the location is superb. I had a concern with the cost since i didn't get what the website stated I had booked. I got a busy field tent pitch, not premium marked for an xl tent as the website offered and cost more. I was disappointed by the Camping in the Forest response. The customer service individual played dumb and gave gibberish responses to my emails over and over. I suppose the hope was that I would go away. Well, I have... Until Camping in the Forest are removed and more suitable owners return. You simply can't treat people like that now and expect to survive as a business.
