That wonderful moment where you secretly desire a bandsaw and drill press but not sure if you have the room.. And then suddenly get both gifted to you! And subsequently make room!
One of my colleagues had them in his garage for many years and just wanted rid of them. It's one of a couple of things that has made my day!
This will allow me to be pretty much self contained at work which is another plus.

Shaped up the stabilised cherry scales today, once the stainless pins and lanyard tube arrive I can get everything else finished up and think about securing it all together.

Next on the bench. After this I have 3 swords to make so that's a bit different!
This is high performance stainless Steel - Niolox, that's recently back from heat treatment. Now to fir with stabilised sweet cherry and stainless steel pins (not pictured). It'll then have a custom leather scabbard created by these same 2 hands.

This custom order was finished today.
1095 carbon steel blade, with custom etch and stabilised closed pinecone, giving it a unique look.
The grip and sheath were made from a single large pinecone, the sheath is held together with copper pins.
... A small piece of bog oak has also been fitted into the front where the blade meets the grip. Brazed copper fittings were created to complete the look.

There is something about shaping wood with rasps and files immensely satisfying! The raised workbench is something I found in the scraps box at the workshop. This unique and bespoke sgian dubh is currently being created by me (Greg).
The pinecone has been stabilised (treated with heat curing resin in a vacuum chamber) whilst remaining mostly closed, which is a rarity as far as I'm aware. It is now being shaped towards completion.
This is going to be a joy to see completed!
... And before someone says it - there will be something in that gap soon, don't worry!

The pinecone (top) has already been snapped up, but the Firethorn (my favourite) and antler are currently available, along with the other 11, including a final pinecone one) up for grabs. PM for details

More knives in progress. The antler one I gripped up on friday I had to redo as I wasn't happy with it at all. Now it's looking and feeling so much better and I'll be able to keep most of the outer antler surface too.
