This is Alex from France. He has newly joined the GEN network and movement, inspired by his brother. He's curious about ecovillages and the definition of what an ecovillage actually is remains a bit blurry to him, though if the right occasion presented itself, he would join a project. He's worked on hands-on projects before, such as building a water tank, and explored some of the elements of the EDE (Ecovillage Design Education) course. He plans to get back into his studies, focusing on psychology. Alex is motivated to see people experience healing and is drawn to explore that within ecovillages.

Climate scientists: We need about a trillion new trees to sequester enough carbon to offset climate breakdown.
Ethiopia, about a week later: Let’s get started. We planted 353 million trees in one day.

This is Sylke from Germany. She lives in the community Lebensgarten Steyerberg e. V. with 155 people. This year's conference was her first, as it was recommended by a community member who works with GEN. Sylke is committed to ensuring children are more included in ecovillage topics, rather than putting them to the side as the adults discuss the important things. She brought this energy to the education 'home group' at the conference and hopes to build on the ideas with about 20 others for the next conference.

This is Tom from England. He works with ECOLISE as a research coordinator and attended the ecovillage conference as an opportunity to engage with the members - and potential members. He also offered a workshop on knowledge commons. Personally, he wanted the feeling of immersion with likeminded people who actively put their values and visions into practice. He also wanted to meet new people and expand his network, as he connected with new ideas. He was curious about the music of plants workshop. Overall, Tom found the conference (and GEN members) represents a great example of what is possible.

The degrowth movement wants to intentionally shrink the economy to address climate change, and create lives with less stuff, less work, and better well-being. But is it a utopian fantasy?

Some of the participants of the GEN Europe conference... which enthusiastically welcomed representation from all regions.
Their experience with ecovillages ranged from being deeply involved in a project for several years to having only recently heard of the movement.
They are activists, parents, students, travelers, gardeners, office workers, lawyers. They are curious, passionate, and diverse.

Damanhur Federation of communities, laboratory of humankind, is currently hosting our "Training of Trainers" workshop. Participants of various backgrounds are taking their participatory facilitation skills, community-building tools and familiarity with the global ecovillage network to new levels! Based on decades of research on how to unleash human creativity and solidarity in response to the challenges of our time, GEN’s growing network showcases ways of living together that... support both people and planet to thrive. In Damanhur, deeply meaningful art is integrated into all the surroundings. In this picture, the community has painted plants and insects in an interesting proportion to the humans as a reminder that we are not superior in size or importance, but rather cooperate on many levels. #Damanhur #communities #laboratory #humankind #ecovillages #Training #Trainers #TrainingofTrainers #workshop #participatory #facilitation #skills #communitybuilding #creativity #solidarity #livingtogether #peopleandplanet #thrive #art #symbolism #plants #insects #proportion #cooperate https://ift.tt/2Y63kLS
