Govan Salvation Army Community Church Description

The Govan Senior Band was formed soon after the Corps began back in 1881. The Young People's Band is reported as playing for the first time in January 1912 and with what were called 'YP demonstrations' featuring 'singing', a Singing Company no doubt existed by then also. It was not until 1918 the Govan Songsters emerged, formed by Major Charles Cox from members of the National Songsters (Scotland) who were soldiers at Govan.

Today the Brigade under the leadership of Matt Ramsay contributes, as it has always done, to the spiritual life and worship of Govan Citadel. It also continues to preach the message of Christ to other places. It's most recent 'Alive' tour of South Ontario, Canada, comes in a long list of such campaigns, also including the Netherlands and Norway. While the Brigade may have taken time to establish itself, having done so, it has kept up the pace on both sides of the border - and beyond!

The name of Govan Citadel Band is synonymous with high standards of Salvationism, deportment and music-making.

The Band was formed in 1882 and since that time, men and women from all walks of life have come into contact with the gospel message through the Band’s ministry in music.

The Band has campaigned in Canada, the USA, Denmark and also in the Netherlands on three occasions. In October 2000, the Band returned to Canada to undertake a 12-day tour.

The present Band, maintains a vigorous witness in the area of Govan, in Glasgow, as part of a vibrant family Corps

As we brought our worship to a conclusion this morning our Singing Company sang a beautiful benediction.

It was our Young People’s Annual weekend and it has been full of activity, worship and many, many blessings. Yesterday afternoon there was a visit to Gravity where the trampolining was of the highest standard - including our young people’s workers. Everyone had a fab time and the energy levels were high. This energy extended into our worship this morning and we were blessed with so many musical items - both individual and collectively. Why not check out our videos we have al...ready posted!!!! Our theme for the day was “Build Each Other Up”!! And many activities took place to highlight the advantage of working together and helping each other. There were thank you’s for some of those who have been working in our Sunday School team as they move onto “other things”. We also witnessed the commissioning of new Singing Company Leader Emma Wilson, and the enrolment of Singing Company member Ruth Hammerton. Lewis Mullen was also presented with the Tommy Ramsay Award, for the progress he has shown musically and spiritually too. Scripture was read from 1 Thessalonians Ch 5 : v 11 - 24. “Are your words and actions true, relevant and edifying??”. Do they build others up and encourage them in what they try to achieve?? As we sang the song “In my life Lord be Glorified”, we were given the opportunity to write our names on bricks and post them onto a wall in recognition of how we can help to build up our church. We are blessed with so many young people and a terrific number of workers who nurture and support the young people in there Christian faith. What a terrific weekend has been spent together in worship and fellowship together. THANK YOU YOUNG PEOPLE!!! WE LOVE YOU ❤️
